Following on from the other threads.. how do you do yours?

___________________________________________

Reverb everywhere. I probably use too much at times.. Sometimes I wonder if stuff is too much in the background and I can probably get away with dialing a bit back & using a bit of EQ to give something a shave.

I like using Ableton's Reverb. It can sound a bit ringy, but I know my way around the controls pretty well by now. I guess thats always good advice; to get to know something inside out, then you know what to do.

I also like the TAL Reverb 2.. which is a plate - and kinda modulates a bit. Its nice and noisy.. so good for stuff that doesnt have to be too clean. I'll usually have the Ableton Reverb on hats & stuff / everything else co its a bit cleaner.

Putting a compressor after inserted reverbs - with a % wet.. and SC the comp to suck out the tail a bit is nice. I seen it in a James Reynolds Future Music vid years ago.. and it can be good on anything. Steve V showed me that if you can get crazy with different SC patterns, you can create all sorts of unprogrammable rhythms.

I do have reverb on the sends.. some small and medium rooms.. but I've no set way of approaching it tbh. Sometimes I have them on.. others I dont and its just cos I forget, or have all the reverbs I need as inserts on a % wet.

Got D16 Toraverb there a while back & really really love the sound.. but I'm still getting used to it haha.

I think Reverb is my most beloved effect as it makes everything sounding "better" or "more natural"imo, but i overdo it sometimes as well.
my "go-to" Reverb is the Lexicon PCM Native Reverb Bundle as it got different algorhythms for different tasks. I absolutely love the sound of these Plug-Ins and the amount of paramenters let you shape the Reverb exactly how you want it.

For large Superhall`s i take Audio Damage Eos as it is very easy to use and does exactly this."Superhall" :D

for Hat's,Porc's and other rhythm-elements i use a "Room" or "Plate" Reverb as an insert effect and start tweaking the parameters on the individual elements until i come up with something nice. For these Large Hall's,Cathedrals or Caverns i use them on Auxes mostly...

I like to use reverb a lot, the current track im working on has some long spoken word in it, im sending this to a reverb at 100% wet, just automating the send to emphasize certain parts of the vocal.
the thing i struggle with is using reverb on drums, particularly snares, as i can never get it to sound right, the reverb never seems to fit.

Been using Ableton's buildin for a long time untill a few weeks ago. I liked it because like ICN said aswell : i knew my way around the settings. A few weeks ago i had some probs on a mix i was doing, when i met a producer from where i live. I couldnt get the sound to sit right like i wanted to, and asked him for advice. The guy has a pretty nice history when it comes to producing, and the first thing he asked me was : "What Reverb are you using ?". Just replied to him that i had been using Ableton's buildin since the beginning and he immediatly replyed that this was most likely one of my biggest problems. He gave me the tip to trie out the Lexicon Reverb demo bundle, the exact same Mono-xID seems to be using. So a few days after i gave it a trie and to be honest since than i havent used Ableton's buildin anymore. For me it was like the gates to heaven opened up, the soundquality was amazing, the settings were easy to tweak, and so on... Thats when i phoned my buddy telling him what happened. The only thing he said was : "told you so" haha...

Yeah, use reverb a lot, sometimes to smooth down sounds like ambience, and of course generally to add space and uniformity.
Loads of tricks that can be done with reverb too.

My faves are Ableton Reverb, but you really have to know how to use it, as you can adjust everything, which can sound great, Lexicon, Stillwell Verbiage, I use Convultion reverb, but normally with weird IR`s for strange effect. GS201 is great for space echo vintage reverb.

Most used reverbs here are Magnus Ambience, Audio Damage EOS, Reaktor's Space Designer 2 depending on the use. Mostly Ambience for rather short drum rooms, EOS for longer hits and Space Designer to give pads etc more depth.

I love reverbs as well as of-course it's essential for most producers. As with delay I think that reverb sometimes is overlooked as a powerful effect beside giving "room & depth" to sound.

I've used the lexicon reverb and think it is ok. I've used the ableton one more though and think its actually pretty good, easy and straight forward. I use the ableton mostly as its to easy to go to, BUT! I swear my old alesis midi verb 4 is way better than either the lexicon or ableton, or aether (I think it was called). Using hardware though is more hassle etc so I just go for the ableton in built.

A mixture of all if them is probably best ;)

Reverb can be fairly versatile - As a creative tool, as a tool for putting sounds in the right space, and as a glue/blending tool; in that it can be used to create some kind of uniform and coherence to a mix or set of sounds.

I would usually use inserts for creative use - for example on strike type sounds, or pad and atmosphere type sounds. As an insert there is just much more control over the individual parts of a mix.

I use sends for blending and space. Usually with a large reverb for space (and blending), and a small plate for drums and transient based sounds. Usually this drum reverb would be used sparingly, just to help the percussive sounds feel more naturally together. If I need any percussive sound to be huge or what have you, then I would usually insert and get the sound I wanted that way (I would additionally still probably send then to the plate return).

Also I think it's important on transient sounds to get pre-delay/early reflections right... with transients, pre-delay is a good friend! You can let the transient through just enough before it gets lost in a wash of reverb (which may result in wanting to turn the sound up because it may seem lost. That just creates extra mush really). I guess you can think as pre-delay like the attack dial on a compressor in some way.

I personally find that short plate reverbs are more suitable for drums, as they help to keep things near enough to the front of the mix (compared to say a hall or cavern etc would). aaaand simply because it's that synthetic reverb sound that we have heard and been conditioned to for many years in music - so it just sounds natural to our ears somehow as we are so used to it on countless hit records (even though a plate reverb is kind of an unnatural sounding reverb in the first place).

When I was on PC I was using this freebie for huge sounds - http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... erb&id=886 I really miss it and it's exceptional for soundscape work.

The CSR stuffs are my most used reverbs http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/csr/ - However, I just got the Lexicon PCM recently so that may change.

There's a great chapter on reverb in this book http://cambridge-mt.com/MixingSecrets.htm I cant reccomend it enough!

I bought ValhallaRoom a couple weeks back. To my ears it sounds really good and it only costs $50. Also the developer lives right in my town and posts all sorts of cool stuff on his blog, so I was happy to support him.

I always seem to use eq for just two things: big cathedrals and ambiences for my drums and bass. I've been meaning to get beyond that with it.

I try not to use reverb too much.
Reverb can be a crutch, glossing over ordinary or problematic sounds. I like to get my tracks sounding as good as possible before drenching them in ear candy fx.
The famous Detroit tracks that techno is based on are fairly devoid of fx (if I remember correctly). Obviously, huge fx and liberal use of reverb and delays has become a major component of dark techno, the industrial and dub.
Still, I like to create the best raw sounds I can in the first instance, before fixing things with fx.
The Valhalla fx are great. I also like the Tal and D16 reverbs. I have UAD EMT plates, but they sound a bit too vanilla and nice for techno.

My life would be meaninless without reverbs (or delays). Tried some plugins, always end up using the stock reverb in ableton. It does it's job and i know how to use it (a bit).

I use Redline Reverb. It's brilliant. I was in the market for a reverb for a bit and had read nothing but good reviews about it. I downloaded the trial as it lets you use it unlimited for 60 days, after that run out I had to buy it. Took me a while to choose a reverb as I wanted to make sure I made the right choice due to the fact that they are a bit of an investment and there's a lot to choose from but I definitely made the right choice.

Great for everything from subtle drum / percussion to long tailed effects / atmospheres or strong reverb basses/kicks. All that with low CPU usage, I really couldn't recommend it more. :D

The Redline one is great indeed. Thing is its dangerous...you try the demo for 60 days and suddenly you realize you have it on all your new tracks and must buy it when the evaluation is out! Hehe
