Documentaries
Documentaries
So we have a film topic and a anime thread. What about documentaries? It can be about anything really as long as it involves either drugs, cunts or anything that can be related to techno.
I saw this recently and thought the ambience of the fans would make up for a nice drone sound haha...

Re: Documentaries
Vice's Docs are pretty cool too, nice and short as well. I usually watch them if I have to do other shit.
Re: Documentaries
Watched one called Blackfish about sea world killer whales. Pretty famous one.
I thought it was gonna be fucking terrible because of the topic - but heard surprisingly good reports - anyways it's very good and i'd recommend it. Surprised me.

Re: Documentaries
oh ffs - just read op again and realised that "can be anything" had "related to techno" after - seaworld and killer whales not included then lol
There is great documentary about how rave in 90s Belfast joined people from both sides. Called 'Dancing on Narrow Ground:Youth and Dance in Ulster'. On youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM5TktcXdnk

The Square
Happy People: A Year in the Taiga
Encounters at the End of the World
Hearts of Darkness (!!!)
Tom Dowd & The Language of Music
Man on Wire (!)
Inside Job
Jiro Dreams of Sushi
The English Surgeon (surprisingly not about techno, also not about the Subsekt thread)
Jodorowsky's Dune (!!)
Hoop Dreams
I don't even watch a lot of documentaries I think. I feel like I missed some really obvious ones.
The BBC series 'Classic Albums' is usually worth watching as well. I've seen about 8 and they
were all good.

Re: Documentaries
also "all this mayhem" is a good one. 2 australian skateboarders dominate the US scene - like, they get to best-in-the-world. .. and then their lives spiral down into drugs and despair. really fucked up, good stuff. it's on netflix if you have it.
ps i have no interest in skateboarding, for what it's worth.

Re: Documentaries
The best documentary I've seen in the last years was The Act of Killing. Heavy stuff but excellent.

Kubrick documentary - Room 237
Theories about Kubricks movie. My favorite, Kubrick faked the moon landing for the government and felt guilty about the secret, so he hid hints to it in his movies.

Re: Documentaries
christ i have a lot of docos to watch now, this thread rules.
the kurt cobain doco thread reminded of maybe my FAVOURITE documentary
it's about the schizophrenic/bipolar creative genius daniel johnston who gained popularity in the era of nirvana, sonic youth etc...
it's amazing. a slightly awkward guy who just oozed creativity in music and art, starts getting recognized, and then severe mental illness starts to take him over.

Haha! Yeah same here, a lot more than I anticipated.ozias_leduc wrote:christ i have a lot of docos to watch now
Samsara is pretty cool too. But you really need to see it in high definition.

It's some sort of experimental documentary without the typical "David Attenborough" narrator (even though hes awesome).
Re: Documentaries
Man.. That's a blast from the past. Every song was about Casper The Friendly Ghost. Must give that a watch. Cheers Travis!ozias_leduc wrote:christ i have a lot of docos to watch now, this thread rules.

Re: Documentaries
Just watched Lions of Sabdi sands. Follows 6 brother lions from their birth to brutal death. It's like the nature documentary of Ghengis Khan they took over the largest known territory for a single lion group and were brutal and ruthless over that time (10-15 years). Fuck I never knew lions were so savage. At times it's a hard watch, but compelling if you like that kind of stuff.

I was a huge fan of Tas when I was in to skateboarding, I, and a lot of the community, always thought it was bullshit that hawk always got given more points for his lame shit when Ben and Tas absolutely ripped it up, their tricks were just insane, mind blowing.
Tony hawk is such a wanker.
Anyway, great documentary, really tragic, and great that tas is finally back on track.

Re: Documentaries
200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo today. I'm watching a documentary on Discovery - Ultimate Battlefields.
Damn battlefield war was gruesome. 130,000 on a "field", cannons, horses, muskets shooting at 50 paces away - gun powder smoke everywhere.
Survival seemed like a lottery rather than skill if you ask me
