By "simple" I don't mean lacking in terms of production capability. Ableton is very powerful and I'm not denying that. It can do anything that Cubase can do (and possibly even more), but I like having things like track presets, customizable key commands, multiple recording lanes, VST management (hiding certain VSTs from my DAW) and a whole bunch of other little things that Ableton can do, just in ways that I don't care for. Bitwig seems to have addressed a lot of these things, it's like Ableton had a baby with Cubase. (I've never used it so I might be wrong about that...)

Some would say that all of those things just get in the way of making actual music, and they'd be right. But sometimes I enjoy just tinkering around under the hood for the sake of passing time.

But winning an argument with Mr. Voidloss is a futile struggle, so I'll just agree to disagree with you right now. For whatever reason Ableton just doesn't float my boat. I'll continue making music with my software dinosaur that is Cubase. (at least until Bitwig gets released)

Maybe he's some kind of Ableton advertiser and its his job to "defend" it here :P

But i use ableton too and honestly i am not willing to switch to something else, i got used to it and i dont have soooo much experience that i could tell all those mini differences between every DAW. As long as everyone is happy with what he works with then all is good.
What comes out of those softs is what counts and not how you get there right?

From recent experience. I can say that finding the right DAW for your work flow and personality is really important. I know there's an attitude that music can be made in any DAW, but I know I spent so much wasted time with Logic.
I still use Logic for the Ringshifter plugin, and when I open it I actually feel hatred for everything in the GUI and navigation design. There's no doubt it's a great program but it just wasn't for me.
I'm glad though it wasn't a really expensive hardware synth, since Logic 9 only cost me about £120, when I go it, and the finding L8 Suite for £130 was an absolute steal.

It's that old English saying "Horses for Courses" innit 8-)

Its actually a good feeling when you've moved from a DAW like that & you go back into it and cant remember how do do x,y & z; all the shit you used to do 24/7 when you were using it. Some things fit like a glove, some dont.

I first considered Bitwig like a marriage of Live and Renoise . the tracker. However they came up with tons of great ideas along the way that i think it's quite beyond those. Editing data with Histograms is one of those i'm really looking forward to. And the internal delay which is able to process any VST in the feedback chain is another one.

Can't wait.

Its true i work for ableton.
They figured because i make such commercial music and have such a large audience i would be a good person to sell their product.
They pay me in doubloons.

I just bought Live 9 Suite. I'm so going to miss my beloved Logic 8 but I just can't afford a new Mac right now so Ableton 9 was the way to go after having a mess around with Live 9 Lite on my laptop. Going to be really weird starting from almost scratch again. Hopefully the learning curve won't be that bad.
Thank you for the laughs, debate, new music found, production tips etc etc over the years. I wish Subsekt and everyone all the best for the future. Wiu.

Should be an easy switch mate. I flipped to ableton for production just at the emergence of version 8 and it was a quick transition.
After working on every single DAW platform I found it a refreshing methodology. Its why I have stayed with it for so long.
If there is another worthy paradigm shift ill probably move on.

I am, but I don't recognize the reference.

I'm actually really fucked off with gaming anyway. Call of Duty Ghosts was a total waste of £30. I try to ignore reviews, but people were right on the money with it being crap.

Anyway, sorry to go off topic!

you're gonna APOLOGIZE for going off topic on SUBSEKT !!!
Where every topic derails after approx. 3.7 posts !!

Wiu, it's officially clear now that you are far too much of a nice guy to live on this interweb thing, let alone planet in total ! ;)

it used to be a description of a difficulty setting of Carmageddon II.
I was never a big gamer, but I played that game to death when I was at univ.
I swear there was never a better Carmageddon II player than me.
I'd crash into other cars driving backwards.
I'd jump on top of them to destroy them.
Outstanding stunt boni constantly !

(and if you're too young to remember that totally outdated game properly, then just forgive my old age !) ;)

Yeah I remember the Carmageddon games. I never played any of them though. I was all about Goldeneye on the N64 in those days.

you can get carmageddon for ipad - i have it for nostalgic reasons. i forgot how fucking hard it is to steer in that game.

as for bitwig, i have TOO much stuff in my ableton library, i'm not even going to consider it.

from what ive heard, theyve based Bitwig too much on what 'doesnt' exist in Live, which leaves a hole in the fundamentals that make Live so much fun and easy to use.

Every video I've see has all been about the new modulation feature, return track clips, or the interpolation midi editing, or ... but these features do look cool as fuck - just not something that everyone is going to use, all the time.

the GUI i'm not mad about. it looks like a souped up Fruity Loops, and there is way too much going on on the screen. unneccessary highlights and bevels.

whoever said that it can only be a good thing that a DAW is trying to compete with Live, is right. the market share ableton have these days is going to be pretty impossible to contest by 2 or 3 guys.

Yeah agree with chrome-metronome - my feeling about Live vs Bitwig is that, without sounding too pretentious, Live is as much about what they've left out as what they've put in. Part of the reason it's such a creative and fun environment to work in is because it's so (relatively) stripped down and simple, but then there is a huge amount of depth hidden under the surface. I'll still try Bitwig, and definitely good to have competition, but I don't imagine it'll manage to capture the essence of what makes Ableton (especially when you add Push) such a great program to work with.

It comes out Wednesday!!!

I'm so excited for this. I'm definitely getting it as soon as it's released the day of (or night).

Anyone else jumping on this?

I'm a diehard Cubase user but if Bitwig proves to be stable and relatively bug-free, I'm going to switch over for good. Steinberg has been completely wreckless with their updates lately and they let serious bugs go unfixed for YEARS. Don't get me wrong, I love Cubase but Bitwig appears to be better than both Live and Cubase combined – the best of both worlds really.

:D
