[Lost to the Void]

So I got a mail from James.
Essentially John and James who are some of the owning team, don't have the time to administer this place any more.
I've moved on from techno, so do t come here much, and the renewal is £250.

None of us have the drive to keep this going.
I threw my best energies to develope the place into a more collective effort via the label, but without me kicking it along it didn't really do what I intended, and I never I tended to "lead" it.

So end of the month and this all goes away.

Parties end as parties must.


I'm still very active musically and production wise
I've been thinking of doing something new, maybe a discord or something, it'll be on by socials when I begins discussing it.

Something wider for underground electronic music as a whole.

Who knows.

It's been a nice run, I've made a bunch of friends here, learned stuff and given away all kinds of production secrets, and anyone is still welcome to hit me up via socials or email or whatever to chat or get advice. I'll always support the underground with punk ethics.

May 2025 treat you well you massive bunch of cunts.

I already missed the talk, but now all this wealth of knowledge will vanish, kind of. Learned so much along the way!

So many things made this site happen.

A bunch of friends. One of which had the technical know how to get a site up & running. Big respect forever to Sam, the real hero of subsekt. Guerrilla online tactics, link farming, facebook honeytrap techno group, and reaching out to cool Internet folk, poaching them from other forums, or contacting them on blogs. We quickly became the no.1 result for techno forum on Google. I randomly spent a few days with Steve in London in 2011, and came away with a lot more than i bargained for. Mattias Fridell's sample pack on mnml.nl caused a great flurry of activity. A no.1 radio show on fnoob, interviews, competitions & the TrusT albums, were all intended to bring more people to the site. It worked. There was a great buzz, steered by Steve & Mattias' decency, but there was another side to it all, and we had great friends helping us, networking all the time. Rachael was a great froend of subsekt & made lots of connections. We will forever be linked to convextion E.R.P's wonderful subsekt mix because of her. Was great to get the Resident Advisor mix of the day with it.

We came a long way quickly from the early days of the site, where I had multiple accounts, to have conversations with myself & kept the place looking busyish. Each one had a different accent, personality, or writing style. I had the time for all that then

Hard to keep that momentum up. Music Production on YT was nowhere like what it is now, back in 2011. That's why we started the site first and foremost. Build it and they will come. So blessed to have had Steve, and everyone else share their knowledge & time. We had a great laugh, didn't we?

(Long sentence warning) FB & its groups, were partly responsible for the decline if this type of forum, but as time went on, a combination of FB groups, reddit, discord, the rise of smartphones, apps, the gamification of everything in human existence, AND last, but not least; the rise of the music production YouTuber, meant that unique traffic to the site dwindled, without the buzz of 'the other stuff'. There's never been so much info so readily available.

The label was a super idea. It is amazing to see some digital artefacts all over the net hinterland still.

In a way, we were ahead of ourselves, and were spread across too many spheres. We didn't have the skills to create & monetise production content. We never wanted ads on the site. We wished to build a hang out for like minded people, which we successfully did, but it was naive to think we could keep funding it. Possessions become burdens eventually, unless they are taken or gifted away. I don't think subsekt would have been what it was if it had of been monetised somehow, but it was a shame that it couldn't tick over some way.

Not sure how much longer this zombie marie celeste website is going to float on. Hours must be ticking down by now.

I think a Donate button or some kind of patreonidge might have helped, to some extent. But you raise valid points, with the way the web is being used these days. I got away of it somewhat, to be fair. Trying to be more focused and spend more time making actual music. Got into Ned Rush though. Also because I was doing more of the break core/IDM thing again, but always kept an eye on Subsekt, hoping things might pick up.

Let's hope that somehow the content stays available.

Yeah, the donate thing would have been great.

I would have liked to do more of a radio show type thing, playing tracks, interview chat & a mix, but regarding my own input to the site, I found I had no free time anymore. Everything was being given away & i recognised that I needed to put in some boundaries. Think that would have been a good addition to the site however.

Having the old radio show every 2nd Wednesday.. with Interviews, promotion, and planning the next mix etc.. like chess moves, was not something I had ever thought I'd be doing. Got a bit pressurised. Totally self inflicted. Would have been better monthly, but it was great craic.

Life is good. Grateful to have done it.
