Gearspace's electronic music forum is the only active one nowadays but it's mostly older folk who hate all post 90''s music and no one really talks about music making and production there, just about what synths they own or want to buy. Every other place is pretty quiet. Facebook groups are slowly fading out as well I think. However, electronic music, hip hop included, is more popular than ever and one could argue that most music is essentially electronic nowadays. Even rock is often DAW-based, with tons of micro-editing of several takes, quantizing, autotune etc. So one could imagine there would be millions of people interested in talking about all that stuff.
But where are they? Or don't people discuss anymore, only watch youtube tutorials?
Funny anecdote: There is a recent poll on GS's electronic music forum, asking how old people are. There are literally over twice as many over 80 years old people than there are under 20 years old people. Even under 30's are rare over there. Lol.

Everything is on reddit. Everything.
So it it's good and bad. I've seen so much bad advice and just general blind leading the blind that it's a chore.
But a deep dive will pay off eventually.

Reddit? Shit, the layout and the user interface are just horrible. It hurts my brain every time I open the site for 10 seconds.

The Elektron forum is busy. Obviously with a heavy Elektron machine slant but there’s probably just as much general chat about production and other equipment.
They seem a nice bunch.

I have an account there actually, having owned various Elektron units in the past. Haven't checked it in a few years though. Maybe I'll visit!

There's Discord and Telegram groups, too.

Good call actually, kinda forgot about Discord despite using it daily for non-music related stuff. Are there any particularly good Discord channels for electronic music production talk or alternatively, DJ talk that somehow hasn't turned into a giant spamfest? Back in the day, there was a forum called DJhistory.com. It was amazing, lots of knowledgeable folk like Bill Brewster, the famous author of Last Night a DJ Saved My Life. David Mancuso, the creator of the famous NY club was there. Even the mighty Todd Terje was a regular there, a bit before his worldwide fame. I miss that one surely.
I do very occasionally read and participate in Funk D''Void's discord channel. It's nice but very small. Mostly useful for his weekly Twitch show where he plays people's demos and comments them. I also used to be in Brawther's discord, but it isn't free so I stopped. And it was pretty quiet and small. AFAIK, discord is full of tiny channels about music production and such, but they don't really show up in google searches so you have to hear about them some other way. And their small size, while having some advantages, kinda reduce their usefulness. Because they're so quiet, there's no need to visit them regularly - which of course makes them even more quiet.
But yeah, deffo share some useful discord channels you know!

DJ History is back online with a lot of original posters. Not much in the way of music production yet.
And while it's never been a conscious decision I guess YouTube tutorials have taken over for me. Though I still check into The Hole and The Bench regularly on here.

I participate in two techno production based discords I find very useful but I'm sure there are many. Subsekt should start a discord!Barfunkel wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 2:53 pmGood call actually, kinda forgot about Discord despite using it daily for non-music related stuff. One is based on reddit's r/TechnoProduction: https://www.reddit.com/r/TechnoProduction/
and their discord is: https://discord.gg/B2cHPyGFsZ
The second one I participate in is Portuguese techno producer ATD's Collective Details discord which has some really great techno talent in its ranks.
