I mean all news about conservatives shitting themselves is good news in my book - but can somebody do a rundown of what led to this?

So last week Liz Truss' new finance minister announced a 'mini budget'.

You can read the wiki page about it here.

Here is a response to it from the Institute for Fiscal Studies: https://ifs.org.uk/articles/mini-budget-response

So basically the financial industry have panicked a bit. Pension funds are crashing. Hedge funds have made a fortune by 'shorting' the pound, which the other day reached it's lowest level ever recorded. It's a bit of a shit show.

It should also be noted here, that the finance minister Kwasi Kwarteng used to work (possibly still does) for a hedge fund called Odey Asset Management, who made a killing shorting the pound - and there was apparently a meeting between Truss, Kwarteng and a bunch of financial heads just before the mini budget announcement.

Crispin Odey, the owner of Odey Asset Management was one of the financiers of the Leave campaign, and also made a killing shorting the pound when it dipped after brexit.

This is like an 8 year burning slow-motion oil tanker crash, that can be seen for miles around due to the masses of black thick smoke that has been leaking from the sinking tanker. Combined with people on-board shouting 'WE ARE CRASHING AND BURNING AND EVERYTHING'S FUCKED'.

Truss is being stitched up...
There was always going to be a fall guy but now it's just taking the piss. The UK government is about to burn with greed and corruption as there is nobody to answer to with the EU out of the way.
They don't give a fuck about everyday people. Pathetic really but I hope people will react accordingly ..

You mean by voting for the posh cunts who created the situation, as they have nearly always done?

In short, our government is run by a think tank of disaster capitalists.

It's quite complicated, everyone thought Boris was going to short the pound, but Truss did it. And she met with Hedgefunds just before the mini budget announcement, one of the heads of those hedge funds is a Tory member, donator and has been involved in all sorts of financial naughtiness tied to the post Cameron conservative government, Crispin Odey.

Also, heard from the missus yesterday, who works for one of the largest and oldest companies in the UK, who`s CEO has direct communication with government, and who`s conversation my missus was privvy too, that essentially the massive turmoil inside the Cons is that this Think Tank ran out of candidates in the party, and is literally left with the dregs both on the front bench and in the actual team running things, who are mostly interns not knowing what the fuck they are doing.

In short, disaster capitalism, devalue everything, make sure mortgages and small businesses default, then buy them up for pennies on the dollar. Tory party generally sells public assets for profit. This time around they have run out of assets apart from the NHS (which they are working on) and so they are basically selling US.

Fucking amazing. They know this is their last term so they are filling their boots, peoples lives be damned.

I there anyone on that island capable of picking up the pieces at all? Could Labour or Starmer benefit from this somehow, or is it even a good idea to let them trash everything even further?

It might not be a bad idea but it wouldn't bring much change in the short term...

If things get bad enough things might bubble up but it's going that way anyway in the long run, a period of "disassembly".

Shit is about to get squeezed if you ask me (on an international level) and not much any government can do about it...

Despite this current govt being the worst in british history, starmer would still probably struggle to win a GE.

Since becoming leader, starmer has reneged on his pledges, admitted lying to gain power, allowed racism to run rampant amongst the membership and conducted a purge of socialist members - including expelling more Jewish members than any other party leader in history. (funny how the media have gone silent about antisemitism in labour, isn't it?) - all of which has ended with over 200,000 members having left the party. Many former Labour members, activists and voters are refusing to vote Labour while starmer and the blairite faction are in power.

On top of that, Labour are dead in Scotland and without those seats it would be a huge challenge to win enough seats in England.

Starmer is little more than an establishment plant - designed to squash the left and make Labour a 'safe' option in case the tories fuck up badly enough.

For more evidence of starmer and his intentions, read up on the trilateral commision, a shady neoliberal organisation of which he's a member. Or look at his donors list, which includes private healthcare companies and Israeli lobbyists. Or watch the AlJazeera documentary on youtube called 'The Labour Files'.

Conservatives are polling lowest of all major parties.
Labour will have the next election pretty much for certain.
It will be mildly better but Starmer shows no real courage to rock the boat too much. We'll get some good, but no major changes. The best thing they can do for the future of the country is give us proportional representation.
I doubt he will do it. If there is lab/lib dem coalition then we might get PR.
That's the only real way we will get proper change.
