Hey all, I've been lurking for a couple years but finally decided to create an account a while ago. I've got a ton of useful information from here and felt kind of bad to just be lurking all the time, so maybe I can contribute something.

Stuff I admire mainly is Polegroup stuff, planetary assault systems, wata igarashi, you get the idea.. Generally I love driving stuff but the psychedelic edge is what mostly interests me.

As for producing, I've been producing for a couple years but finally I feel like I'm getting to an okay-ish level. Hope to post some tracks here soon!

Hi! Stubled onto this forum when searching about bus compressors and mastering and found "Lost in the Void"s exellent guides.

I've been into making techno since the late 90's, without ever been in the "scene". Just love producing music and playing around with gear. Lost all kinds of ambition regarding music back in the early 2000, but want to do something about that this year. :) Hopefully get a gig or something when the Covid restrictions starts to ease up here in Norway.

Hi all. I have lurked here for a while for the solid production tips people offer. I have produced music on and off for the past few years now. I have never really shown my work to anyone because I don't think it's really at a high enough caliber yet to be enjoyed by anyone other than myself.I have been creating in such a vacuum though that I probably have not improved as much as I could have been if I was showing my work to people. Because I want to improve I have set a goal for myself to self-release something in 2021. Aside from techno I listen to a lot of house music. Anyway glad to be part of the community here now and I hope I can contribute something people find useful.
Hi tunez. Thanks for being here! You should upload so music to the what you are working on section and let us take a listen. Could be valuable feedback.

Pretty typical story, I think I've read every post in the Hole at least once over the last few years. I made an account a little while back and it was finally approved just recently.

My artist name's mervv, I've made techno and techno-adjacent music for about 7 years. For a long time I was all in the box. Over the last year, I've collected some hardware. I'm really process-oriented, so figuring out how to incorporate gear and exactly what I want out of it has been a lot of fun. I find I'm still doing most of my (re)sampling and a lot of sound design in ableton because I'm really comfortable with it, which is a bit surprising.

I wanted to join this forum because it's been a great resource for me, from stuff like Steve's stickied tutorials to the threads where people share wacky ideas they've tried out recently (those are my favorite).

As far as music goes, I'm more into a particular vibe than I am a certain genre or time-period. I like stuff that's funky and a bit sexy, powerful but restrained. My regular rotation includes a lot of classics. Recently I've been digging through the discographies of Detroit in Effect, Vince Watson, and Mike Ash. I love Shed's many aliases, especially WK7. I like a lot of hardware acid stuff, like Jared Wilson.

I also love anything spacey and melodramatic. Listen to a lot of post-punk and goth-rock as well.

I'm really drawn to music that sounds very situated in a particular scene and time, that reflects, owns, and amplifies the social milieu it comes from. I think dance music is fundamentally social, and outside of a social context it doesn't make much sense.

I've noticed that I soak up the sounds of whatever city or environment I'm in. When I lived in Leipzig, Germany for a few years I really enjoyed ketapop and all this drugged-out super-slow stuff. Now I'm in Shanghai and I've found I naturally sped up quit a bit.

I mostly play live and I'm hopefully going to be releasing a couple records with some friends here in the next 6 months or so.

I love this forum and I'm happy to be here!!
Hi mervv, thanks for joining the forum. Steves tips have helped many here including myself. He is a great asset to subsekt. Hope you have a great time here.

That might be a good thing. All forums have a treshold. After that is passed it often looses the orignial charm. :)

Obv not new here, just had a little break from music and music forums. I suffered a personal tragedy as my dog died some time ago. He was my best friend and I loved him more than anything. Been a bit difficult to concentrate on music and such.

Anyways! Now I'm back, making music again too and stuff.

Hello

Through the 90's as a young teenager listening to artists in the Techno scene such as Joey Beltram, Carl Craig, Platsikman, Jeff Mills, Distorted Waves of Ohm as the main bunch, but largely due to music was hard to find in my small seaside town where I lived. I shifted back into the more electronic side of things, as started listening to music around the rave boom but was enjoying Kraftwerk and JMJ at the time, trying to sample with TechnoSound Turbo and Octa MED and midi sequence my crappy keyboard through Music X.

Most of the music I enjoyed back then sort of occupied a similar space, all in some way connected and informing each other. These scene from my perspective seemed constantly asking questions about the future and "where is it all going?" - Brenda Tuohy. This always stuck with me, and really being a massive Aphex fan through his early music, and early Warp, LFO, all that good stuff, I have always been interested in pushing music forward into interesting areas, but also not going to let that get in the way of a good track. It's a balance.

Today, I contribute to the running of a label, that is attempting to be more decentralised. I have recently acknowledged and am actively investigating my being an anarchist. Pretty exciting. I also make my own music under various projects. Much of it sits in that groove based, techno zone that would occupy the studio even as a kid.

Recently, the tracks Adam X hilariously said to my mate Tony, "you're boys got no rhythm" after hearing it, ha been released some 24 odd years later on https://newyorkhaunted.bandcamp.com/alb ... -no-rhythm

Also, if you haven't checked out the work of Distored Waves of Ohm, and you can find it, and you like your techno HARD AS F**K, I would highly recommend you check that out.

Happy to chat, share and learn from all the people here.

Thanks

M

Hi all, Im lou i stumbled upon this forum while looking for tips on how to make some punchy kicks and groovy basslines, I've been a guitarist for many years, in one or two bands, recorded a few songs, all amateur gigs, always into heavy dark stuff and also when young got hooked on raves but the scene in my area was all about trance, anyway only recently i discovered techno, maybe three or four years, and so I'm slowly learning about the classics, the Detroit scene, etc. and enjoying more modern tracks that I find here and there. I'm also slowly learning how to produce techno, and now techno is what im hooked on
Glad to be here, you guys share a lot of great stuff and solid knowledge, awesome community and hope to some day contribute with more than just newbie posts.

Really sorry to hear about your friend Barfunkel. It's tough. Been there a few times myself.

I know you could never replace them.. but there are plenty of dogs out there that could do with a good home & kind people to look after them.. so never say never again Mr.Barfunkel 🙂
