Not really.
I mean I just record interesting sounds around the house or when I am out.
Processing wise I just go techno with em, as in anything goes. Lo-fo sample engines, distortion, compression, reverb, resampling, ring mods, comb filters.
Whatever.

It`s hard to get anything as texturally complex and interesting in synthesis land, percussively.
All right I need to start recording stuff

Some great suggestions in here. Thanks guys! FM based synths seem like a good way to go. Ive been making drum sounds with my modular system, so this should complent that nicely. Ogun also looks awesome. Cheers!

I'm use ableton samples, or get them from splice it's few quid in a month and you can get 120 samples to download, anyway back to the point. What Like to do, i make drum loop and when i'm happy about a result, i put grain delay or other delay vst, record on new audio channel, eq for a bit, maybe put a gate on with a just a little bit of reverb and auto pan (or whatever depends from taste and situation anyway) it's gives a nice character to the backround sound so you don't need to put more synths and bla bla. MOREOVER you can get really nice sounds and slice them, it's really good way to expand your sample folder ;)
