Yo folks,

For good practice I share my latest release around here. Released by my Dutch friends Lateral Fragments.
Driving sequence based machine funk per definition 8-)

I like track 3 a lot. Sadly it's exceedingly rare to hear dj-tool techno with funky and interesting drum programming these days. So good job!

Ah cheers friend, happy to hear that. Yes funk is important. Not sure why you find it being a "dj tool" track but whatever description makes you happy!

Oh, it wasn't meant in a derogatory way. Just seems like the kind of track that does a good job of stitching together a set. Good DJ tools for me have to have some character, they're not just anonymous fodder. I'm not a fan of canning tracks for 2 month and then never playing them again. Klockworks always has been a quintessential dj tool label for me, they're simple and made for the dancefloor but still pack some colour and character so you can still play them years later.

I find it interesting how you would consider Klockworks to be a DJ tool label.. Most of their releases are well arranged and classy sounding records - But majority of it isnt stuff id class as DJ tool. I'd consider tool stuff to be more like a Dimi Angelis record for example. Which is amazing stuff also.

But anyway, getting side tracked..

Really digging track 3 Mattias! Love the funk. Too many techno producers dont focus on groove and it creates a lot of really bland mush being released.
Dont take life so seriously :mrgreen:

Oh I did not take your comment in a derogatory way. Was just slightly surprised you saw it as a DJ-tool type of track. However by reading your comment about tracks for stitching together a set I realize some people have different views what tools are. I guess all tracks are tools in that sense. The way I usually judge tracks as dj-tools are quite stripped down music and have little to no real progression that works to layer with other tracks to beef them up for an occasion.

I really like this bit;

Since I put the effort in to make tracks that works virtually anywhere in a set (depending on the user of course). So your comment makes me one notch happier then before!

A friend of mine once came up with the distinction of "diva" and "slave"/tool tracks. Diva tracks are the kinda tracks that don't like to go together with another diva track (very melodic/a bit cheesy tracks, tracks with weird rhythms, weird intro/outros, very short tracks etc.) so you have to slot in some "slave"/tool tracks in between :) Of course, by that logic most techno DJs play very few "diva" tracks, which is also why a lot of sets are so boring IMO.

Thats a cool way of looking at it. Essetially most techno that is made for the club could be classed as a DJ-tool, because techno is essentially DJ-set music. And every track is a tool but a tool box doesnt only have one type of tool inside it. :D
