I'm asking also.

What should I buy? Budget is currently set to roughly 1500 € but can stretch.

Have a look at these. They may even build one for you to slightly different specs if requested.

Yeah those scan 3XS systems look promising, though I'm not too sure about having them send it internationally. Lots of things that can go wrong there, so maybe it's a better idea to buy the listed components (if you're not in the UK).

Also came across this article http://www.scanproaudio.info/2017/03/02 ... for-audio/ which has some info on DAWBench results for a couple of recent processors, though I think DAWBench in itself does not test very realistic scenarios. Still, if that test is anything to go by AMD is a definite no go.

It seems to be really hard to dig up more info on the real time performance issue and which hardware combinations to avoid, found some things on gearslutz but it's scattered, and somehow I really can;t stand reading that site for more than 5 minutes...

The best solution would probably be a scan system, anyone here who has experience with them?

Something interesting I came across when looking into dynamic frequency scaling (don't ask how I got to that point:v) http://isboxer.com/wiki/HOWTO:Disable_C ... in_Windows
Not mentioned here, but also make sure 'system cooling policy' is set to active, otherwise windows will first slow down your processor before activating the fan.

Honestly I wouldn't overthink much, you'll mostly likely end up buying a processor that's OP for what you do anyway.

Maybe, though on the other hand the 'overthinking' is actually to avoid something like that :P

FYI: http://www.scanproaudio.info/2017/03/02 ... for-audio/

Great overall performance, increasing issues with low latency settings.

yeah i had read this but this is from MARCH 2, 2017 and there is no info about the Specs and such things. For example, at the Starts of ryzen there was some issues between different Motherboards, different RAM Options etc. Since the release ryzen was updated a lot (for example increase in games over 20% due to Bios upgrades) and for now I dont read alot about people who complaining about latency issues. If you know something about iam inetrested in (forum links and tech talks, still a problem?!)

Here's a very subjective personal experience:

Although I've been buying Intel CPUs for my last two DAWs, the one's that have been the most stable ones before were AMDs. Damn, I'm waiting for those new toprange AMDs for sure.

So I've finally decided what to get, barring any major developments in the market during the 2 months time it will take me to get the cash together.

What I did was for the most part copy the 3XS system FWX299 PowerDAW, since after a couple sessions of looking at specs, benchmarks and whatnot it seems they really know their stuff (surprise :P).

Especially on single thread performance this processor has massive scores, so freezing tracks will finally be a thing of the past when building tracks (I hope anyway), and when you do need to render out your tracks for mixing/collabs etc it will also just fly through because of the 8 cores :v)

Parts list:

Intel Core i7-7820X
Asus Prime X299-A Deluxe
be quiet! Dark Rock 3

Corsair Vengeance performance 32GB (2x16)
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Windforce OC 2G

Samsung 960 EVO M.2 PCIE 250GB
Samsung 850 EVO 1TB
Seagate Barracuda 4TB

EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2

Not sure about the case yet, maybe one of these 2:

be quiet! Pure Base 600, Corsair Carbide Series Quiet 600Q

Also need some card reader/dvd-br player, I think I still have some of those lying around in a box in the attic.

Might go with 4x8 RAM sticks, since the 16GB version doesn't seem to be low profile, not sure how that turn out space wise, whether it will get in the way of the video card/M.2, better to be safe than sorry though.

Wasn't planning on playing lots of games, some Dirt rally/Bioshock so that card should be more than enough.

The 750W PSU they chose at 3XS is a little much, added up watt usage according to manufacturers and the max values barely added up to 550, then again if you'd want to upgrade/add stuff it might still be a good idea to have some power to spare.

All in all it will cost roughly €2000, so that's quite expensive.... But in the end I think it's worth it, as I think I can expect it to be the last computer I'll buy for a good while..

looks like a load of premium parts there mate. Not sure you can go too far wrong. A bit confused by the triple hard disk thing you have going on but I'm sure there's good reason. I just personally wouldn't have any need for a 4tb spinner. My current laptop is 120gb and it's only half full!

Regarding PSU I think a 750 on a draw of 550 sounds good to me. I wouldn't want to risk cutting that too fine for what it costs. I see a lot of recommended builds that are only in the 200's and they still use a 400-500 PSU. I'm sure someone a bit more technical can chime in on that front though...

Happy building!

Looks like a great build be careful about f the x299 boards and overclocking, the heat sinks on the VRM have been rushed and could throttle your chip down due to overheating. Intel has rushed the chips and the board manufacturers have used the boards.

The as us boards have already been recalled from what we I've seen

Damn, it's a good thing I haven't got the cash together yet then , or I'd be stuck with another piece of shit computer right now  Thanks for the head up. Though I can wait it out, and I guess it's not a bad thing to wait and see if there's gonna be some more movement on the market because of the AMD thing eventually...

BTW I think I am going for a 750W PSU, in hindsight it might even be a good idea to go higher, completely forgot to account for any usb device that will be drawing power.... Just did a seach, and apparently PSUs are more efficient (and quiet) when they use about half of the available power.. Seems a bit exaggerated, but still worth considering I guess.

Gonna build a new machine for the production room at the end of this year.
Gonna go full beast like I did with the mastering room, I generally get the best prices for my builds.
**Wait until black friday if you are looking to build a new machine this year**

I built a sick machine for the mastering room 2 years ago, ended up getting a roughly 1800-2000 machine for about 900 jib by shopping around on black friday.
