I like the basic idea but the overall mix sounds very thin and basic. Less EQ across the board and some nice mixbus saturation and compression would do wonders. Mix could also be a bit wider, more reverb / delay would help.

Your drum programming and sequencing is very nice, you have the oldschool programming down, you just need to get the sound right. Take a look at these threads. Also get yourself some tape emulation, U-He Satin is really good.

sounds indeed so much better
will mess with some tape simulation and saturation
there isnt really much eq on the track
i removed some mids from the vocal and the bass
mayb a little bit too much hpf on the hats
i made this track a year ago and some say there was too much mids and the hats were too much smashing so i tamed it a little bit down
i also removed the buzz from the bass
