A proof of concept/experiment.
I wanted to try out some musical concepts based around the methods of Steve Reich.
Changing melodic phrase lengths over time, evolving melodies over time.
Very quick, couple of hours of experimentation, but the concept works and I`ll probably extrapolate on it at some point in other work.
Thought it might be interesting to some.

love the work of Reich. So satisfying when multiple layers start to build and harmonise beautifully.

Really digging the track/experiment you posted as well. Seems like youve managed to get the layering right.

This is a great concept, reminds me of older Surgeon tracks somehow, while being a little more polite. Might be a bit useless to suggest anything since it's more of an experiment but I am missing some pads in there.

This hits very much the style i'm playing in my set atm. Reminds me a lot of some phase productions, who is a true master of such percussive evolving melodies. Great combination of patterns and sounddesign. Those snappy guitarlike synths are great in this. Great overall groove. Is the sub "just" a reverbthingy? It supports the groove perfectly.

probably needless to say but your bass ''rumbles'' are a thing I like the most in your production.

Really loving the low end in this track. Could you give a quick run down of what's going on there. Is it kick/verb/sub or something? It's so controlled.

Cool track. Of course I like pretty much anything Reich-related. Also reminds me a bit of Surgeon and Regis from the mid-90s...in a good way. The two synth lines mesh nicely and the drums are tight.

It`s actually pretty much a bog standard reverb sub rumble I threw in just to get something going quick.
There is a little twist which is kinda interesting.

But yeah it`s just an ableton reverb (on the kick buss) on a send/return, compression is in there sidechained back to the kick so it pumps, and all the high`s are EQ`d out.
To add some movement I threw in a frequency shifter and then sent a M4L Lfo set on random shape to the the fine tune of the frequency on the shifter, so the reverb changes tone constantly.

this is a great concept, really works quite well. almost reminds me of the aleksi perala stuff that's getting hype recently, just in the way things swirl and build with their own harmony.
