Driving, mainstream-ish techno track that I hope is ready

Post by Barfunkel »

Not that deep, I was aiming for the peak hour this time. Not really Bumload type of peak hour, more like the kind of stuff Carl Cox plays.

I hope it sounds at least decent. The automation of the bassline filter is occasionally a bit too much so I might tone it down, but atm I like this the way it is. Will probably change my opinions by tomorrow though.

I think it's kind of sexy groovy <3

Mix wise I think it sounds great - the kick really packs some energy! And I like the way it sort of insists on being a danceable rhythm. The filter automation is not overdone if you ask me, but I kinda feel like the drop could have come back in more full force - especially since the build up is quite long. It's not that it doesn't work, but if I were to revisit the track - that would be where I would spend my money :)

Filter automation didnt stand out to me as being too much.

I agree that that kick really hits hard, and overal mix sounds very good to me.

I did actually change it, the version I posted here first was a bit over the top.

I sometimes like to do pretty extreme automation, just gotta learn to keep the levels and the frequencies in control. Especially wild filter cutoff movement can be difficult with some synths, they sound so much louder when the cutoff is open. Which is normal behaviour, just causes mixing problems sometimes. I occasionally try to use dynamic EQ in kind of that way, automatically tame the nastier frequencies with over the top filter or FX sweeps. Haven't really got satisfactory results though, I'm not very good with dynamic EQ to be honest.
