Exercises in minimalism

Post by Barfunkel »

While waiting for my friend's MPC, I accidentally figured out that the Aira TR-8 sends out midi data and can thus sequence my Sub Phatty. I messed about a bit, sent the TR-8's drums to the Sub Phatty's input and recorded the results.

Note: Aira doesn't have a separate channel for midi sequencing, it's actually using the same note data to play the drums and to sequence the Moog. So I have to keep it quite simple or it gets all messy.

This first one is just a quick excercise, I'll try and see if I can make something actually worth listening with nothing but a drum machine and one mono synth.

Another one in the same vein. Just TR-8 + Sub Phatty.

Fourth and probably the final track in the series. The very limited sequencing possibilities of the TR-8 are getting a bit tiring. Hopefully I'll receive that MPC2000 soon, then I'll be back in the business!

Synth riffs are cool.. Old school niceness for sure as Pedro said.. But riff / groove in excercise 4 is my fave.

Respect for limiting yourself. Can appreciate what's happening listening to hiw the tracks progress. Enjoyed listening to the fills & tricks you used to keep it going.

One more time! I'll get the friend's MPC in a few days, then I'll be back to making proper tracks.

TR-8 + Sub Phatty, as usual:
