It works but you have really overcooked that kick, it completely dominates the mix and everything else sits in the background.

what voidloss said.

You have a nice sequence and some nice other little sound fx happening - but you need to bring that kick in level with everything else. The overall groove gets lost by the 'DOM DOM DOM DOM' of the kick.

Once its more levelled the groove will start to open up a lot more and it will sound much nicer.

I do enjoy the track a lot, so im keen to hear an updated mix.

do you think the kick is just too loud? its also distorted and saturated as fuck, so that might be a prob too.

To me it sounds too loud in level + too knocky in the low mids.

Sounds boxy at the moment. Try turning it down a bit in level and scoop out some of the low mids.

You could but it would be much easier just to balance the kick drum fader, rather than turn everything else up.

yeah true, i might run into problems with clipping.

i leveled the kick down, tried to take away a bit from the lowmids. i still think its kinda boxy as you call it.
i thank you all very much for the feedback!
i think ill just leave it as it is now. feels better to move on and make new tracks :)

Cool arps here, really liking those intermittent (distorted) bleeps, they add to the groove nicely. If you're planning to go back to it eventually might be worth a shot to replace the kick with a 909 and sculpt/layer it into place, might be easier than fighting with this one.

While I'm typing this the track is filling out a bit, might just be enough to give it a narrow cut in the lows and layer it with with something to give it just a bit of extra character.

Something to try with the arp, loop (various lenghts, and filter tem etc) small bits of it and use as fills, I feel that would really take this one to the next level.

As others said, the arps are really nice. The Kick though that sounds too much like a metronome to be with the first kick of a bar different to the other 3 kicks. But you are probably on to something else now.

yeah the first kick is different, because the top layer i playing later there. i found it a nice addition to the groove, need to check again.
@vodoo how do you mean layering something low underneath it?
like a low noise or something? do you do that? doesent it fuck with the lowend? never heard of this, but sounds interesting.

My impression is that the kick is too heavy or too long (?) for the rest of the track and I'm not digging that 1/16th low volume hat.

Nice synth sequence, cool FX and well mixed (for me).

Let me rephrase that, cut out some low end to clean it up slightly and layer something to emphasise the (high) mids, that's where you can give it character to make it stand out from all the bog standard kicks everyone seems to use.

You can of course also cut the lows completely and replace it with a sine for example, but that's something to try when you've got a nice kick going with messy lows (distorting/artefacts etc).

This! The kick sounds too NativeInstrumentish, compared to the rest of your track. Give it a high layer, get rid of that plastic click and bring it to life.

hm yeah the kick is made with the kick2 synth, its perfect for psytrance kicks, but to get gritty stuff out of it is kinda difficult.
iam still learning with the kicks, to me when it bangs its already good. :D
but i see what you mean there root, might get back to it tonight..
@vodoo thx for that advice :)

I like the kick now and the track as a whole. I think the straight 4/4 beating low end works and I think all of the noise and fx hits fill in the track nicely to compliment the lead. I thought the filtering and modulation on the lead worked and kept the track interesting however I still think a 2nd lead would help the song even if it was only a 4 bar fill variation every once in a while, although I can hear what you were going for. Overall I definitely got into this.

Edgy as fuck. Very nice.

It's a a simple 4/4 groove but the modulation means it never seems to resolve which really just adds to the tension, even though the call and answer groove you've got happening keeps the interest.

Good stuff. And yes, the 2nd kick drum version sounds loads better to me
