The Voidloss - Every Scar is a Victory
So, my album is finally in pre-order.
Limited edition box containing the CD album comes with a "Scarred" steel armour plate cover, rusted and then fixed, but will continue to change colour over time.
Covers manufactured by the armourers who did all the armoury work for Mad Max Fury Road.
This is not a techno album, strictly industrial doom metal.
Took the best part of a year, and a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get done.
Why metal? well, I made 3 techno albums, and then threw them all away. I wanted to make an album that meant something, and had definite subjects to talk about, and things to convey that just can`t be done within the subjective abstraction of techno, plus I don`t think dance music is appropriate for the subjects I was dealing with on this release.
So, I ended up making industrial doom metal. It happened naturally so it felt right.
Previews up on bandcamp.

Cheers mate, it`s my first journey back to metal since my youth, but I`m hooked, definitely doing more.
Re: The Voidloss - Every Scar is a Victory
Showed it my cousin today. He is a massive Sludge, Stoner and Doom freak and he fuckin' loves it. Guess he'll buy it asap and so will i. Need some new stuff for the mp3 player to project my hate on all the fuckfaces at work.

This sounds great.
You have to systematically create confusion, it sets creativity free. Everything that is contradictory creates life.

Congrats to this achievement, Steve! I kinda had the impression from afar that it meant and still means a lot to you. The box conveys that pretty loud and clear.
Metal ain't my cup of tea so i'll pass it on to my guitar-driven friends who have to check it out.
Still worship your efforts - +5!

Not my usual cup of tea, but I am enjoying it very much. I can hear how much work has gone into it, its very well made, and very nicely presented! Great work man.
Re: The Voidloss - Every Scar is a Victory
Just wanted to say again about this being very very good indeed.
Been listening to it in the car for the last week or so. Fucking mighty. The gated / short, fizzy cymbals have me hooked.
The vocals / lyrics are on point too. Amazing sound - Serious business. I love it.

very nice! digging breathing winter and the night at the moment.
somehow I hear more Melvins in these tracks than doom (which I hope you will regard as a compliment!)
Fat sound, fat sound.
live (triggered) drums or programmed?

Re: The Voidloss - Every Scar is a Victory
Well, cheers all, it was a lot of work.
i made and recorded over 20 tracks, did the vocals etc, and it took ages getting it down to the tracks that made it on the album.
Drums is complicated.
There is a combination of drums.
i did a lot of recording at Arches studios in west ham, vocals, guitar and drums.
Used my old Tama birch on some tracks, some of it was triggered from my alesis mesh drum kit, some of it was programmed. Everything was fucked with and resampled or generally fucked up in some way to the point where it's hard for me to distinguish what is what.
So its a combination of live recorded, samples, live triggered samples and modules and drum replacement.
It's definitely a studio album, there is a lot of trickery going on.
i'm getting some musicians together later this year to take it out livd, which is going to be a headache i think.
The melvins weren't an influence, but indirectly everything sludgy and doomy is pretty much influenced by Zep, Melvins or ( in my case) Neurosis.
its my take on Doom, I'm not trying to sound like Doom metal per se, mainly because I don't know enough about it, but the idea of low slung high gain sludgy guitars, really slow pacing and dark, doom-ey subject matter is what I took from doom, stoner etc and tried to give my own spin.
Mixing it was a bitch, I wanted everything to be huge, huge drums, huge guitars and huge bass, obviously an impossible task, but I have a clearer picture of how to do it now, this was a hardcore experiment essentially.
Working on new stuff now for other labels, probably cassette or 7inch release next.

Re: The Voidloss - Every Scar is a Victory
Missed this thread but I do listen to quite a lot of metal and I must say this is fucking excellent music. It made me want to watch Lost Highway again. Take that as a big compliment! Actually I think it would fit well with a Lynch film like that. Cycles Of The Endless is a standout for me. Great job man. I will definitely be recommending this around.
Re: The Voidloss - Every Scar is a Victory
Hi Steve,
don't wanna sound like a prick, but here goes: is it only available on CD? I can see there are downloads/streaming, but only as an extra with the physical carrier. Maybe I didn't look hard enough.
I'd be happy to send you a tenner, but the package is, dare I say, of little interest to me. I see lots of love and labour went into it, though...
