What exactly is the application here? Transparent mastering compression?

Transparency is only a really a part of it, it`s the level of control you have over various parameters, having complete control over the time based stuff, attack curves etc, and just the way it sounds. It can be invisible, or it can be really musical in a way that is closer to "real" compression than a majority of stuff out there. The spectral dynamics part of it is super super clever.
For a mixing context (why I have it), buses, mastering, whatever. It`s just a great compressor.

Amazing comp. However, not just an amazing comp it is also an exceptional frequency masking tool. Had it up against trackspacer and neutron and it is better at this task with half the cpu needed.

have only tested it briefly, but already love it! It feels like cheating, though. I threw some loops of various kinds at it, only going through the 'magic button' routine, and every time it came out 'better'. Also very light on CPU. Gonna test it some more, but guess I'll get it anyhow. After all the character emulation analog blablabla stuff, it's time for a modern technology comp.

Steve, what's your thought of the various compressors from Flux Audio? I demoed them once and they have shit loads of control. More like on every other softcomps I've seen.

I think flux are great in general. They crop up in a lot of mastering guys tools.
Alchemist, Solera, Pure. I've been using them for years. Bittersweet pro is one of the best transient designers out there.

I been meaning to get their ircam reverb for a while.

Their free stuff is great too, the standard bittersweet and stereo tools.

I don't generally use their stuff when producing though, as they are too detail focused, but I use them a lot when mastering non electronic music, where you have lots of subtleties and detail and dynamics, and being very precise and clean becomes more relevant. Vocal led stuff, acoustic stuff.

That was my feeling too. Very pro stuff, the reason why I decided not to buy. I mean, i wouldn't even use 10% of what these devices are capable of.

Was tempted to try it and then saw the iLok requirement (software license or not, I don't want it either way). Anyway, you can get this for about a tenner cheaper if you buy it from JRR Shop. They're charging 89 USD instead of Euro and you can use voucher "FORUM" or "GROUP" to knock it down further.

I got it for 56 from PB as i own the free poximityeq (free if you buy anything from PB i believe). As for the iLok i put a code in the plugin which I got from PB and that was that, I didn't have Ilok open, not sure that makes a difference though...

I tried it in a few spots inside of a couple projects after buying it this passed weekend and got good results. I'm looking forward to using this more.

Fuck I had an issue with Live 11. Everytime I try to close the vst's window the DAW crashes.

I was excited to try the demo today and then it says you have to install the PACE iLok license manager. I've had some poor experiences of that in the past, so I'm out .

Been trying their Frei:Raum EQ. The reverb and tonal EQ feature are a really neat idea for sound design.
