Bumping this ancient thread (I don't even recognise some of the user names in here!) as I was about to make a new one about Reverb. I've read through and I'm still hungry for more tips.

This is something stupid I've only just picked up on. The perceived depth of a sound has nothing to do with the reverb tail length, it's influenced by the wet/dry. The wetter, the further back in the mix. For a long time I'd been afraid of backgrounding elements when using long tails when I didn't need to be. Now I'm happily using long tails and just taking care to keep their volumes fairly low and EQ'ing out the low end.

Another tip I've picked up is to use a pre-delay that is in time with your track.

Does anyone else have any suggestions/tips for effective use of reverb?

probably somebody mention it but feel free to use all of kinds of effects, to shape & colour sound of reverb, like distortion, saturation, delays, gaters, Comps&EQs...
also you can play with routings & send dry signal to one channel for processing before you send it to reverb or do it after.
try using few different reverbs in chain to create a more complex space etc.

less is more & always monitor reverb in whole mix not in solo ^^

I have Native Instruments RC24 and RC48 classic reverbs, but have not been using it as much as id liked to. Anyone tried or maybe uses those reverbs too?

yeah.. their convo's are great I think... I do like Waves IR1 though... being able to use a convo and control early vs. late is awesome.

@Hepta: I haven't used the NI verbs... but I'm pretty sure the RC24 is supposed to emu the Lexi 224; while the RC48 emu's the Lexi 480L..?? i think?

plus Softube helped on those I believe, so they've got to be good.

Yeah exactly. I read this article about them that say's its a good alternative to those Lexicons's at a much smaller price. I just haven't heard the actual difference myself.

I'd love to learn more about making natural sounding reverbs, how to process them etc, especially with the Ableton's stock reverb. I pretty much tweak presets atm until I think it sounds good.

Put reverb on something, assign the decay to a midi knob, twist the knob everytime a stab goes through it. Be amazed.;)

I meant size not decay, on a good quality reverb it goes '' woosh ''
