Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
I definitely think that is relevant now as Fukushima has been pouring 100's of ton of nuclear water into the ocean in the last few years.Hades wrote:I'd be more worried about the crap we get into our bodies when we eat too much fish (from what we've been dumping in our oceans for so many years) than from my panels or monitors, to be honest.
Not that our meat is that much better though...

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
you know what's funny ? I always thought eating fish that was bred instead of fish that was caught in te ocean seemed a good idea to me.
Untill I recently saw a documentary about our oceans and seas.
Apparantly when they breed salmon, they feed it fish meal, and fish meal is made from sardines.
Sardines used to be the easiest fish to catch. Now they even have trouble finding enough sardines.
There are whole parts in front of the African coast that are declared "dead", there's virtually no life in there any more whatsoever, only trash and shipwrecks.
So even if you eat fish that was bred, you're still taking in toxic stuff at some point.
fucked up shit...

another one of those scary facts : don't eat too many stuff like crab/lobster/shrimps/...
The father of a friend of mine had to go working in Dubai for a few months, and he had the whole luxury treatment : great hotel, every evening big all you can eat buffets.
They guy ate all those "crustacé's" for months cause they're so expensive over here and they're so damn tasty.
He came back and had bowel cancer. His doctor told him he should have known not to eat too many of those things cause they live at the bottom of the seas/oceans so they take in even more waste than the other fish.
Would you have known that ? I sure didn't know that.
Seems logic once you're told, but if I were that guy, I probably would have eaten tons of it as well as I love those things.

[quote="ICN"]Charlie, do you have any 'plans' that you made them off? They look perfect in terms of what I'll be doing. Theres lots of slightly different designs out there atm. Any .pdf's?
No pdf's for the way I built them, I just read a shit load of information on on other forums, there's a really long helpful thread on gearslutz regarding builds. Mine are essentially:
1200 x 600 x 100 mm mdf frames, built in a rectangular shape so that the rw3 can sit inside it.
Hessian fabric staples down the back.
Then you just put the rw3 rockwool inside the frame and cover with the cara fabric.
I had materials for 4 more but didn't get time to build them in about 3 months, had to sell them really cheaply before I moved so they've ended up costing pretty much the same as if I brought them from a professional, if I'd built the other 4 though would've been a killer saving.
If you want some advice when building yours feel free to drop me a pm!

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
For all my best plans.. it was just too hard to get this Earthwool. I ended up getting Rockwool instead.
RW5.
I'm committed now. Have to do it
Charlie: Sorry man.. completely missed your post in here. I might do Mate. Thank you very much for the offer!

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
Got some foam for a fair price. Wanting to treat my room a bit.
Thinking of covering my door with foam. And near reflections. Any other tips/suggestions?
My student/bedroom is not that big but want to make it more comfy to work, since I had some flutterecho in this 'empty box'. There is nothing on the walls or something. Already making some panels for behind my monitors.
Thanks,

Hey John, if you want some mdf frames ripped I can do them for you. Have a tablesaw and a couple of 18mm sheets. Just tell me size/depth of the frames you need.
Anyone ever try upholstery foam for this instead of rockwool?
I presume it wouldn't be as dense, but can come in different densities to suit the hardness of seats, backrests etc. I might check the specs and see if they make any sense ..

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
If you can engineer how to get that foam into a much thicker ( at least 2") form then you could probably put at least a dent into the ringing in your room. Unfortunately it's not really all that great at dampening anything unless you thicken it up.Victor wrote:Got some foam for a fair price. Wanting to treat my room a bit.

Seems to be a difference, not sure how much it applies to sound absorption.surface wrote: Anyone ever try upholstery foam for this instead of rockwool?

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
Ha just copped these thread posts are a year old!!
Anyway, yeah can get seat foam up to 100mm/4" easily enough.
We've made cushions for seating booths before that were called up this thick in the design spec.
Prob a price difference too though ..

Re: Acoustic treatment, where to start?, what to do?
Thanks for the quick link. Seems the only difference is regular cell size (?)

For high mid and high frequencies, the type of foam really doesn`t matter.
For low frequencies, no foam works.
The reason rock wool works is that the particle are "loose" but also heavy, so they can reverbrate and move, and this sucks the energy out of the bass waves.
Foam doesn`t do this, and this is why any form of foam bass trap is a complete waste of money.
