Everybody knows the theory but having a well balanced mix can be really tricky.
You've to find a good compromise between punch and deepness. The whole thing needs to breath too. It's so easy to waste the energy of your track with such a technique (low end issues).
Of course the first time you get into this, you may think it sounds great and oftentimes when you decide to turn up the volume or play it on another sound system it's a total mess !

of course you can approach something by methods i've read here but you definitely need to have a good mix to make it interesting and really efficient (not just having a big rumble as your sub/bass on a sound system i mean)

the whole track needs to be well balanced too of course.
"it's easy when you know how" but doing it right needs work and experience.
totally true

Aye. it's very easy to forget that some of us are very biased by experience. It's very true what you lot are saying, all pieces gotta be connected in the mix of course.

so here is my little demo based around what I said on the first page of this post.

Pics are here to illustrate what I did, don`t judge too harshly, this was thrown together in half an hour.

Any questions, ask away

I`ve used all ableton plugs, the samples used come with ableton as well. the kick synth is a free vsti, the sonimus satson stuff has been just used to control gain levels and the meter on the master is the only real third party doing anything.

Not a question, but a suggestion;
Upload the pic via the Subsekt uploader to make it bigger so all can see whats going on. Or link to a bigger pic?

tried to upload super hi res to subsekt, but it told me this

The image must be at least 0 pixels wide, 0 pixels high and at most 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high. The submitted image is 1920 pixels wide and 8655 pixels high.

this is nice, but for me it's not balanced as the pfirter track mentionned in the first post.
it's close of course but doesn't have the same impact.

it's all about the mix, can't tell exactly what...
i think your method is great as a starting point, but would you leave this as it is and consider it's enough for a release?

would be very interesting to see how you could push the mix further.

Are you fucking kidding me? I threw this together in 30 mins, and it is unmastered, with only 5 channels in the mix.
This is a demo to show how to do the basics of these elements, not a final mix and master ready for release.

here is a link to a much higher res picture so you can see the various settings I used for the demo track

https://ia902508.us.archive.org/26/item ... 20Demo.jpg

I`ll link the track here again.

Obviously the kick can be made dirtier and harder by increasing saturation on the saturated kick, and the definition can be adjusted by changing the level of the 909 sample, and/or dulling the top end of it.

Do you guys thin down the stero image of the reverb/kick in mono since it is bass or do you let it spacey?
