ctrl-v to paste your printscreen
If all goes well, mspaint will display both of your screens.

Re: subsekt sound design school _ BASS
I usually just drag the stuff over to the main screen when I want to print.
Or on windows - alt and "print screen" - will take it of whichever screen is in focus/selected
You PC or Mac?

You'll need to do some research on some screen recording software mate. Camstudio is free ( I believe) - but you'll need to do a bit of searching yourself as you need to know what you are doing to record your voice / system audio / soundcard etc..
Its easy enough - but you'll have lots of questions if you dont choose the right software to begin with. I'm not sure what the options are for PC & how much they cost - but y'd want to dig about to see how much you are going to be willing to spend (and whether you can make tutorials in your DAW with them on windows in the first place) before you purchase. So have a look on their forums or send an email outlining what you require to the company.
Hopefully someone here can chip in with PC screen software - but I unfortunately know nothing about it Mate. I use one - but its on Mac.

I have a free screen recording program called "hypercam" (or similar) pretty good and easy to use tbh. I just don't like using it lol

Re: subsekt sound design school _ BASS
Now i don't have any screenshots yet but the technique should work with just about
any synth. I always loved the synth driven stuff very much. To get a somewhat classical
bass/lead thing going on (think older umek etc.) - you can generate a random synth line
which goes over 1 bar or half a bar or 1 beat etc. and then arpeggiate that. Then when you have that
pattern established you can create loads of different lines by moving the bassline pattern by 16th steps.
Skipping through some presets (of course you can program your own) should yield you more wicked lines
than you thought you ever needed. Pressing the randomize (notes) on that pattern in your DAW will generate more
and more lines. Pick the wicked ones, filter to taste, record, slice, reverse etc. etc.
Harmonically rich patches lend themselves esp. well to this.
So in essence, randomize and choose wisely. You could try this with DiscoDSPs Phantom for example,
pure wickedness.

Thanks, Mattias.
I just always enjoyed that type of techno and was overcomplicating matters.
And i want to hear more oft that kinda techno, there's more than drums.
Surface, i reckon you should be happy. At least i hope you will be.
The possibilities are endless.

When you say random synth line, would that be monophonic or include chords? Do you pay any attention to sticking within a musical key?loopdon wrote:you can generate a random synth line which goes over 1 bar or half a bar or 1 beat etc. and then arpeggiate that. Sounds cool but I'm struggling to visualise a little...
Re: subsekt sound design school _ BASS
Im currently trying to build a bass out of a resampled hi-hat loop i made that was put through a randomized turnado preset and then recorded while doing some slides on my korg. Now im going to resample it again and turn it into an intstrument, record some filter movement and resample it again. But i digress, me liking randomness doesnt help anyone really.
Since techno tends to have pretty huge kicks often enough, something that helps keeping the low end under control a bit is EQ ducking. Basically you link the output of your kick buss to an EQ on your sub instrument, which has a very tight notch set at the absolute peak frequency of your kick. You can set the band and the notch amount to taste of course, but basically this is a static but very effective way of avoiding some nasty low-end clashes. Obviously you can also use a muted kick to trigger the same effect. Since dynamics in the bass/ sub-bass region are hardly an issue this can be better then normal sidechaining in many cases. I might be kicking in an open door, but maybe this is useful info to someone.

Hey Lee,
I hadn't considered doing that EQ ducking on instruments.. Must give that a go.
Gonna try what Loop was talking about later as well. I think I have an idea what he means.. haha

Not chords really, randomization and just picking out the funky bits...
Re: subsekt sound design school _ BASS
I'll try and upload some examples, tomorrow.
I reckon this stuff is an integral part of techno,
these lines you wouldn't come up with naturally.
You still have to filter what you deem good, so
even if you use presets it will have gone
through your personal filter, so to speak.

Re: subsekt sound design school _ BASS
sidechain eq can be effective at times... but watch out for weird phasing issues. make sure you're able to hear what you're doing down there...

This sounds similar to a technique I've heard someone else describing, but don't think I could really fathom it out then either.
