Boiler Room - Putting drunken goons too close to DJ's since 2010.
Why do dj's put up with this?
I'm not trying to be an arse for the sake of it here, but everytime I see a boiler room set it drives me nuts seeing these loons so close to fucking things up for the dj, bumping into him/her, holding drinks too close to the equipment (cringe). I've even seen memes about it - 'how patient is this guy lol' - well he shouldn't have to be patient, he should be able to get on with his set without interference from some gak'd up trend follower.
I'd like to say it's all boiler rooms fault, but if nobody complains or boycotts then they're never gonna change, are they?

Because it's a massive promo opportunity for any DJ appearing on BR. Having drunk egomaniacs bumping into you for 1h is definitely a price ppl are willing to pay in exchange for that.

For a taste of the fame pie I think a lot of DJs and performers would accept if the crowd pissed on them for their entire set.
Boiler Room is the ultimate ego wank.
Re: Boiler Room - Putting drunken goons too close to DJ's since 2010.
Come on… most of the DJs at Boiler Room are used playing safely at fancy stages. Dealing with drunk fucks, spaced out freaks and people spilling drinks all over the place is an essential part of underground Djing. I encourage it – it reminds them where they’re coming from… hope Boiler Room pays them with free drinks.

I always liked this one, where Søs came in and was just "Imma fuck shit up! here's some djuuum-dju-dju-djuuum"

Tbf, in the first couple of years I found the idea behind BR quite charming. The nights in Berlin that I attended back then were pretty cool and most people there didn't try to be in front of the camera but enjoyed a nice Wednesday night out. I never quite understood why you'd actually sit in front of a computer and watch it (live acts maybe being an exception).
Re: Boiler Room - Putting drunken goons too close to DJ's since 2010.
honestly, i've never really had any concept of the techno "club scene". never could understand how people talk about techno being made only for the dj/club, as i've always listened to it on its own like i would anything else. sometimes i think i'm missing out.
then i see these, or even that one video that Void posted showing the street party with the cops. fuck all these people, i think i'm glad that i know nothing about these bopping jack-offs and their "scene". i like to think of techno as the soundtrack for a loner on a train ride, not music for a bunch of trendy hipsters with no soul.

The concept of the DJ being right in the crowd with everyone else is the charm of Boiler rooms. No big stage, separated from the DJ, watching them like some performing monkey.
I like the intimacy of it. But of course some crowds are worse than others, which can depend on where the BR set is being held and the type of music that certain DJ plays.
But when you have a respectable crowd and the set being held in a good venue, the vibe is on point.

That's some pretty cool shit, thanks for posting I'd not heard of her. Can't agree about the sweaters though.Amøbe wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 2:07 pmI always liked this one, where Søs came in and was just "Imma fuck shit up! here's some djuuum-dju-dju-djuuum"

It has nothing to do with reuniting the DJ with the crowd.
It`s just the shite Whoretits?-esque "the REAL party is behind the decks" bullshit that marked the beginning of the end for him, but turned in to an actual "thing". It`s pure vanity, not enough to have the DJ on a pedestal, nope, the DJ is front and center with the crowd BEHIND them. DJ`s should be heard and not seen...
It`s utter wankdom and only Ankelpants did it good by turning it all back on itself and taking the piss.
Re: Boiler Room - Putting drunken goons too close to DJ's since 2010.
Established or not - there are always more gigs to play, higher fees to charge, new markets to tap into. If you don't keep up your promo game most people's attention goes somewhere else. Don't forget that you're competing with Netflix, Nike and Trump's tweets. Very few exceptions confirm the rule.Ben Kohonays wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 3:05 amYeah I get the whole promo/I wanna be famous aspect, but some of these people are already well established....

If you are, you've got issues!
It's producing and/or playing one specific strain of music. If you are aiming to go beyond the circle of people who really appreciate it, then there's something up.
Well, that's how I see it anyway ..

The crowd are all around the DJ... Just because theres one camera showing you the DJ and some crowd behind him, doesnt mean thats how its actually layed out.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 4:25 amNo.RWise wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 7:11 pmThe concept of the DJ being right in the crowd with everyone else is the charm of Boiler rooms. And regardless, not every boiler room is one big party with a huge crowd. Theres plenty of boiler rooms where theres about 5-10 people in the room, making it a pure showcase of musical selection.
So im not really understanding the big attack on Boiler Room here... ive discovered some great artists from watching their BR sets when they were relatively unknown.
But i guess its easy to shit on something thats big and popular these days right....

I was quite sure that you were going to mention Ankelpants ; he's the real king of the BR concept!Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 4:25 amIt`s utter wankdom and only Ankelpants did it good by turning it all back on itself and taking the piss.

It's been shit since before it became massive.
Ego wank tastic.
Perfect for the selfie generation though.
Re: Boiler Room - Putting drunken goons too close to DJ's since 2010.
Everyone has about 14-18 wake hours available per day to focus their attention on something. Even the most hardcore underground techno person that only drinks black milk might get lost in some outrage porn thread on twitter on Trump. While they use their time on this, they won't pay attention to your latest hot bangorz. If they use their remaining time to check out the latest Ostgut you miss out. Too bad for you but as simple as that.intrusav wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 4:25 pmHardly!rsntr wrote: ↑Thu Jun 14, 2018 9:57 amDon't forget that you're competing with Netflix, Nike and Trump's tweets. Well then there's only one thing to do - get a Nike sponsorship deal and make a documentary for Netflix where you parachute into the White House shouting "Check out my soundcloud!" ..
