I keep writing and deleting in order to not to give any spoilers but yeah overall the second season was okay for me except couple of scenes. Also what the fuck was this piece of shit supposed to mean?

yeah, totally unnecessary story line,
looked extremely stupid compared to the rest of the story.

Maybe some equal rights movement saw an early draft of the story and decided that the punks needed to be represented as well...

Me and the missus wondered about that. I think the whole thing was to show that Eleven had power and strength on her own. It was an empowerment thing.
Did seem a bit random, but I'm willing to bet Nine will feature again.

Overall loved ST season 2.
But Bob though :(

they even said this in the extra's : they just put in that episode to show 11 had her own strength,
and only by leaving she could truly come back afterwards.
But that episode sucked balls massively nonetheless...

I actually liked Bob,
took me a while to get used to him, but once I got there...
he was a nice counterpoint to all the seriousness of the rest of the characters.

that step-brother of Max though... totally unnecessary character...

Hehe yeah it's amazing how far Cgi has come, I kept thinking how expensive it must have been to make that show for netflix going back all those years and what not. I truly had no idea so much of it is cgi.

Stranger Things season 2 did not fail to entertain either, binge watching is the only way to go with shows of that quality. Otherwise my neck would look like a crackheads waiting for the next fix :D

I hated Bob at first too but he grew on me and I kept thinking where the fuck I knew him from and of course he was lead character in The Goonies.

fuck, never even recognized him (but yeah, haven't seen the Goonies in maybe 30 years).
The Goonies was actually a big influence on the Duff Brothers when making Stranger Things.
They also put in a little Stand By Me moment btw with Dustin & Steve.

Classic film that , need to watch again someday not seen it in ages.

There was a moment when Bob said "What’s at the X? Pirate treasure?” But his face was somehow just printed into my memory since a kid when I watched The Goonies like a zillion times :)

I really want to watch Stand By Me with my kids some day.
It's one of my all time favorite films.
Most people barely know it's from a Stephen King short story.
That moment in the end, where the adult Gordy explains what happened to the rest of them,
and he talks about how Chris got stabbed,
it always makes me think of what a sad death River Phoenix had in real life as well...
(it's a bit like whenever I see Philip Seymour Hofmann play nowadays)

And then that line :
Friends walk in and out of your life like waiters in a restaurant
So true, unfortunately.

I'm currently watching the Gomorra series, and I gotta say it's pretty good.
Not excellent (and the film was still better), but it's really well made,
has a few excellent actors,
and most of all, it's beautifully shot (all those decaying buildings never looked better) and comes with a fantastic soundtrack done by Mokadelic.
I had never heard of them before, but they're some Italian post rock band.
I would never have thought that maffia and post rock work well together, but it's a match made in heaven...

I really want to read the book and see what's it about and why he had to travel with 5 armed men assigned by an Italian Minister himself, because he was getting death threats by the mob. Eventually he had to leave Italy for some time.
"I want a life, I want a home. I want to fall in love, to drink a beer in public," said Saviano, who has lived under police protection for two years.

did you know that one of the (less high ranking) maffia guys was even stupid enough to play a part in the film,
which eventually just got him arrested...

I really liked HoC at the start,
but I just gave up somewhere halfway season 3.
It's just always more of the same, tbh...

also, surely I can't be the only one on this planet to have always suspected Kevin Spacey was gay ? :D

man, the more I'm seeing of Gomorra,
the better it gets.
The combination of post rock and Italian gangsta rap is just fantastic...
I genuinely thought I had gotten to old to still like gangsta rap shit... :D

trust me, I'm at episode 8 or something now, and Pietro is long out of sight...
Enjoy watching Salvatore Esposito, who plays Genny.
He goes through a major transformation later on,
and it will make you wonder how you ever thought he was only a not so great actor earlier on.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons, I think the third season starts on the 17th of November, so I'm looking forward to that.

A comparable series called Suburra is also on Netflix, situated in Rome, less violent, more drama, rather superficial characters. Just got to the end of the first season and it was not a complete failure, but there's plenty of better things to binge - like Umbre, a Romanian crime series (on HBO) at times up to par with Gomorrah, second season starting soon.

I watched The Goonies a few months back and it was still awesome. The influence in Stranger Things is visceral. You're also right about Stand By Me, the kids' camaraderie... lovely.

[wesellboxes] wrote:Not Netflix, but started watching The Deuce. 3 episodes in and already shaping up as a must watch series.
I watched the pilot when it came out and wasn't too impressed, forgot about the series for a while but last monday I was at home with the flu, so I decided to binge it as the full season was already available; I wasn't disappointed. James Franco is sucn a versatile actor and his portrayal of the twin brothers is impeccable. I was very ambivalent about Candy's storyline, but the rest - highly recommended.
