Not fair lumping Paula Temple in with the beige shopping mall techno crowd, she rocks.
DeathVox was pretty awesome

Also one of the worst things about psy, at least in the uk, is the fucking crowd. Trustafarian white kids with dreadlocks (all white people with dreads are by default, fucking twats), gap year dicko`s just back from thailand, and typical hypocritical "spiritual" fucking dream catcher crowd. They do my nut in.

I took Powler Temple in that list just because of equality and gender and shit. She rocks ??? Witnessed 2 sets of her and she wasn't better nor worse nor different the the rest of the line-up.

I'm with you on the "white Rasta" type shit but personally I'd rather share my spliff with a chilled psynaut over a "i'm hip, i'm dark, i'm industrial because I sniffed bad speed at Atonal this year"- Cunt any day....

Luckily the techno crowd over here isn't like that, apart from at some of the suckier places in London, it remains a pretty good crowd, generally pretty raucous and unpretentious.
Most of those types you mentioned moved to Berlin thankfully.

Surprised to hear Temple sounded like Klockworks and truncate and the rest of the boring Berlin sound peeps. Whenever I've seen her it's been nothing like that. She generally plays pretty hard and dirty and relatively uptempo with an eclectic and interesting selection rather than the usual, big kick, sub rumble, crackle crackle and minor stabs and buckets of reverb those boys all play.

Oh, she played like you described but so did the other guys as well. I mean, I can only speak for Jerkhain sets as it's the only venue I go these days when I want sum techno.

Only because some Ostgut acts had some rumble/stab tracks (the Ostgut label itself is quite eclectic imo, not my cup of piss though), doesn't mean that these dudes play that stuff for 6 hours.

I mean, Klock is just a really good techno DJ (and from what I heard just a humble person in general) period. Most of his sets I've witnessed were quite funky which was always welcome after 4 hrs of dark/drone heavy shit.

Same with Dettmann, he gets quite eclectic in long sets. From ambient to techno to 80's to EBM to industrial to House to DnB...

To me, at least these guys deserve the spotlight waaaaaaay more than clown, Sellout or anyone else in that league.

Dettman has always been pretty good, out of that whole boreghain crowd he's the only one I find even slightly interesting. He's always been kinda proper techno, even during the heights of the boreghain sound.
The rest... Meh. Interchangeable.

Yeah, Dettman is the best one for sure. I also like Ben Klock, though not sure he counts?

Funny thing is most of those stomped with the Berghain-act seal of approval plays very varied set with a huge variety of music.
It's extremely ignorant to think otherwise. I've said it many times before but it's the copies and pretenders that made the Berghain techno into "rumble kick + a stab only techno".
Hell Paula Temple plays less varied sets then the regular Ostgun Crew.

THIS basically....

To think there's just dark rumble techno the whole weekend is just retarted and I never understood where this assumption came from. I heard much more non-standard sets there than anywhere else (hence I go there a few times a year).

Well if we are to be boringly serious then the cliché comes from the music released out of that school and not so much the acts (though personally I find them all a bit....normal and interchangeable, but DJS in general don't get me excited, Kareem has been the first DJ I've seen for a long time who has been interesting) . The sound was mimicking the way the club reverberates.

Yeah there were maybe an album and 4-5 singles on Ostgut Ton that could be defined as, what later came to be through other peoples mouths; Berghain Techno. The crap came out of the followers and hyper-mongers for sure.

Yeah I don't get it either. I've been serious impressed with the range the Ostgun ladies and gents play in their sets over the years. Where others are stagnant they move forward.
Not only the regular household Berghain names of fame either, I played at a gig with Norman Nodge and Tama Sumo many years ago and was seriously not expecting them to play so varied and energetic.

I know very little to nothing about the so called Berghain sound/stuff,
but I always loved the diversity in Norman Nodge's sets,
afaik it's always been there,
and I think I've been listening to sets of his here or there for the last 5 years or so.

On the other hand, never even heard of Tama Sumo...
she sound like a proper heavy weight ! :)

LiYeah, mainly the in-house and the "close affiliates" of the club always playing really nice and diverse sets. And its very easy there to play some "off the track" music as there is always a nice vibe with the crowd (which is getting better at the moment as all the hip industrial twats thinks it isn't"cool" anymore to go there).

I was there like a month ago or so. 6 in the morning, I'm hammered as fuck crawling out of my regular bar and was thinking "Okay Mono, 2 more beers for the way home at Jerkhain (which is round the corner)". As I arrived, Abe Duqe starts an 4 hours Acid House live act with him on the machines, some young women singing some twisted shit through effect boxes and a stoned, long haired psychedelic dude by the name of Jesus jams along on his guitar. EPIC !!!

Mono first like... :o ...then like.... ....then like this 8-) dancing through the whole set, grabs a beer and walks home....Nice morning it was, just Nice....

The club really reminds me of Berlin's most notorious club in the 90's, the mighty E-Week...

Poahh this is reaaaally good!! Thanks man!

I used to like Bumload. Good and powerful stuff for the dancefloor. I lost interest more because of the radio shows and all the advertising and the radda radda during the sets. It's like Defected. Focus on the commercial aspect rather than the music. A bit too commercial. I mean, they all have to make a living and stuff from it, but I reckon they still would with less of that stuff.
