Powered USB Hub recommendations?

Post by winston »

potentially the dullest topic ever on subsekt. apologies.

i need a powered USB hub because my macbook only has 2 usb ports and ideally i'd like to use 3 or 4 things. if i plug Maschine into a hub i have, nothing else (in particular the Traktor X1) can be powered by that hub.

anyone use a powered hub? there are millions to choose from, but i'd rather just go for one recommended here, used in a similar fashion. from one port, using the hub, i'd like to plug in the Maschine, traktor x1 and tr-8 (unpowered).

Make sure it's multi TT. Choose a reputable brand. Check Amazon reviews or something and you'll be fine.

the multi TT makes sense.

I got a USB hub years ago, just looked up the brand, but it's impossible to write.
Basically it's "ICICU" with the 2nd C mirrored.
Bought it at least 5 years ago, so yeah...
All I can say is that I never had any trouble with it,
and I have my APC40, my MIDI patchbay, 2 controllers,... just a lot of stuff connected to it.
Never had any trouble with it,
but I do like to say that I never used a USB sound card.
I used a firewire sound card before, and now I'm on thunderbolt.
So maybe that does make a difference, but I never had any trouble at all with too much data input or whatever.

Just bought a 13 slot Juiced Systems one. Pricy but I like it... first time in life I have so many free usb slots ;) only using about half of them, and has charging slot for your phone... they do a 10 slot version also. Seems to be pretty much the same as the Anker...

Re-Up!!

2020. I'm looking for a powered usb2 hub.

Can't be usb3 compatible. Has to be totally usb2.

Usb3 is like kryptonite for my soundcard. Clicks , pops etc.. I'm ok for usb ports, just want to investigate whether a powered USB2 hub kills ground loop issues.

Bit late to the party on these now.. things are moving on, so appreciate that there might be a lack of choice. Seen a few online, but would appreciate a recommendation if anyone has one.

Just picked up a Startech powered USB2 hub from Scan.co.uk.

Will give it a try anyway. Didn't break the bank. It was a brand I recognised & have positive experiences with, so all good 👍

Hard to know what to buy in a vfm price bracket. Lots of shitty Chinese stuff out there with conflicting specs vs. their own data sheets / product title.
