Further options: Mirc (PC), Adium (Mac), Thunderbird (also supports irc).

For those who like more streamlined stuff I recommend hexchat (based on classic xchat) which is free and open source for Win, Linux and OSX.

Also there are phpBB plugins that will embed the chat right here in the forum in a web applet, so if you guys wanna look into that it would probably be the most hassle free way for everyone. They work fine on mobile too so it's probably the best way to get it more active.
