Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno scene
Guys i want to ask you what are your opinions about the situation in greece and why nobody in the techno scene talk about this kind of topic. Have they or have we become so elitist that we don't care about a situation that could kill europe and the music scene itself in the old continent?
I mean i know some of you like Steve or Mattias have opinions about this kind of stuff but i just can't understand why this situation in greece or even the immigrants going to italy is not a topic of discussion between us eletronic music musicians.
What the Eurogroup is doing to greece is just pure evil. People are hungry in that country, people are suffering, the greek government has no money to do anything and they can't apply good measures because the eurogroup doesn't agree with them. And what is most shocking for me is how countries like sweden, denmark or finland, countries who supposedly care more about people than in other countries, accept this kind of blackmailing the eurogroup is doing to the greek people.
Anywho i now wait for your opinions.
Cheers

Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
This and zillion other issues of fucked-up-ness in the world we could be talking about.
It all comes down to greed and the fact that governments are now run by financial institutions.
Greece ran a social system they could not afford because of the limitations placed on them by being a part of the EU.
I don't see a solution in sight at the moment, not until the people stand up, everywhere, and take their world back from the hostage taking financial powers.

Agreed. But most people dont see it. They think voting for some right-wing party out of protest will help when it just makes it all worse

Yeah, but there are some countries in europe that i thought that would have some kind of compassion but it looks like they don't.

They have no choice, in compassion terms, they can't operate outside of the financial system that link everything together. If they did there would be penalties.mainst09 wrote:Lost to the Void wrote:This and zillion other issues of fucked-up-ness in the world we could be talking about.

No one country can help Greece really, the whole system needs to be smashed open.

One if the most shocking things I've seen in recent times.. Equal to the horror of terrorist attacks IMO, was that Greek guy who set himself on fire in protest / desperation.
Got fuck all coverage and/ or hasn't stayed in memory cos it wasn't sexy enough fir the disaster ghouls. Most people I mention it to don't know. Still makes me feel sad. The situation is fucked there.

Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
Bunch of shit imo.
Greece was never in a position to be a fit member of the Euro zone.
In fact, looking back, they were literally not even eligible to join when they did in 2000.
When it happened anyway, their inflation numbers were structurally too high. Which really only becomes
an issue as soon as you have a common currency in the first place.
Several economists point out policies of Andreas Papandreou as the cause of their
bad financial situation. His son was elected to lead the country in overcoming them.
Syriza probably has some good intentions left over from its roots, but I'm not
too hopeful.

Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
I think the real shame is that the solutions varoufakis, who actually seems quite reasonable, placed on the table to the European summit, if you examine them, already make promises that although will save Greece in the short term, will fuck greece and the Greek people in the long run. It's just setting up a massive upward wealth transfer.
Those solutions were rejected, as if they weren't extreme enough!
Getting the fuck out of the EU, renationalising the banks and trying something new is probably the only decent solution.

I mostly buy Danish feta
Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
Honestly.. I haven't bought feta since I saw a TV show about goat farming in Greece. 2 or 3 years now anyway. They were in a very rustic kinda place & hygiene didn't look like a massive priority.
These days I've completely stopped eating cheese as it happens.. So makes no difference either way.

And to be honest.. It's got more with my major dislike of Goats more than anything else. I was always looking for a way out of eating feta.

Hey Renato.. Is it true ( I know you are 1/2 Spanish..) that people from Asia don't like cheese / dairy products? Or us that just a stereotype, urban myth kinda thing? I heard people say that Asian folk can smell dairy on someone's breath.. And find it a gone off, sour smell.helloitsmeagain wrote:I hate their salad...
Seems like a massive generalisation.. But I hope you don't mind me asking as we're randomly talking about cheese on a a Techno forum.

Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
So.. Back on topic I guess.
What will happen to Greece if it exits? It'll be an apocalypse.. I can't imagine what will happen to those people. Greece will have to go back to drachmas. The cost of daily basics will go into space. I don't see any other way.. All the ministers from different countries are being very negative about what'll happen next. Unusual to see that publicly. It must be irreversibly fucked.
I think the uk talks will be in a better position if Europe wants to keep things shipshape. Cameron must have a voodoo doll of Greece.

Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
I don't really know enough to make a meaningful comment, so please ignore.
I did however spend time in Greece before the crash and something struck me.
Who the hell was paying for all the new infrastructure/ public works (same thought about Portugal when I lived there). I mean there were brand new, barely used football and Olympic facilities. The whole metro system was new etc.... I mean living in Belgium now, the infrastructure here is terrible comparatively, and the tax rate here is about 45-50%.
Now after the crash, it seems abundantly clear. The Greek government at the time were spending cash they simply didn't have, and maybe no thought of how it was going to be paid back.
The creditors also need to man-up and accept their responsibilities of lending so much to a country in such a state in the first place, perhaps writing off some of the debt.
However, how many times do you have to step in when you've been careful with your money in the boom-times, to help a reckless neighbour who wasn't so prudent? Not sure is my answer.

Re: Rant about Greece and politics in the so called techno s
We don't discuss it so much on here cause this is our escape from the big bad world... our techno hideout...
Greece is a very very long and complicated discussion, I lived there for 15 years in the 90's. The root causes go back decades to the end of WWII and the Varkiza Agreement between the world powers that split the country and led to civil war.
Fast forward to today and the basic gist is the people are getting fucked over by the banksters, like most european countries esp Ireland, Spain, Portugal. Private debts where socialised. There is a staggering lack of democracy in the EU power structures. Unelected officials passing legislation for their banker buddies. Rentier systems being forced upon all countries.
Greece is the canary in the coal mine. Everybody should read "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins.
Did you know part of the IMF demands for Greece to get more bailout money is to scrap all future collective bargaining. This is a world wide crusade. Its all about debt servitude, no need to invade and bomb countries when you can bankrupt them and buy everything for pennies.
Austerity is a political decision.
