Subsekt Anime thread

Post by tsurani »

Alright let’s give this a shot

Some series stuff I have liked off the top of my head. There are more but some I will have to check online for the titles. I also didn’t want to start the thread with a massive list that might kill the thread off.

Attack On Titan
Sword Art Online I only watched the first series, I checked out the first 2 episodes of series 2 and really wasn’t feeling it. It seems like lots of others agreed. Anyone here given series 2 a real go?
Garo
Death Note
Steins Gate
Donten ni Warau

Feature length stuff that came to mind was

Anything Studio Ghibli
Tekkonkinkreet
Akira
Paprika
Chôjin densetsu Urotsukidôji
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Ninja scroll
Fist Of The North Star
Street fighter II
Neo Tokyo
Metropolis
Wolf Children
Kite

I remember liking Urotsukidoji when I was a teenager. That was a long, long time ago though. Haven't really watched any anime in 20 years.

I love anime, but really struggle to find time for it in my life these days. Like Steve said in another thread most series seem to go on for ever.
I'd be interested in something concise and focused delivered over 16 episodes.

I too can't stand the ones that goes on for a half eternity.

My favorite series is probably Code Geass. But there are many good ones;

Tengen toppa gurren lagann
Blue Gender
Gungrave
Serial Experiments Lain
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Ergo Proxy
Claymore
....and others I forgot.

I tend to like crazy, clever, mindfuck, overly crazy escalating stuff though....

Yeah, I won`t mention the classics.....

I did gurren lagan recently, which was a hilarious parody of robo power up stuff.

And Kill La Kill had a similar theme but also parodied Ecchi. Was also a good laugh.

Redline is a great feature by the same team who did Dead Leaves I think (another great film).

wonderfully over the top.

all the GITS SAC and SAC second gig is wonderful.

The boxed set of Aeon Flux is also really really good.

i didn't know there's was aeon flux anime series. i'll have to check that. i didn't like the live action movie too much. the thing that brought it down was the poor fight scene choreography. it would have been much much better if they'd got proper kung-fu people in there like they did for matrix. i also thought it was a little drawn out. the special effects were quite good. one in particular with blonde hair haha.

Aeon flux film was based on the animations, which were adult, abstract, deep sci fi weirdness.

The film was Aeon flux by name, but wholly stupid in execution.

My all time favourite anime has to be Monster. It's a fantastic mystery/thriller series that follows the manga to the letter (hence the 74 episodes).

A recent one that's worth mentioning is Zankyou no Terror.

Yeah man! It's semi-long but it has an ending. Not much super powers but its a great psychological thriller.

Yes! Berserk is awesome. I never read the Manga though, only seen the anime. It's a shame they way it ended...

It's incomplete ey. They really shouldn't have made a series out of it until the manga finished.
