Hey all,

I'm Mike, an NYC based DJ / producer hobbyist. Have been into techno for years now but have only recently started on the creative side of things.

Admire the producers that can blend melodic elements beautifully with hard techno, Ancient Methods being my absolute favorite, but more recently everything off of the T47 label.

Hoping to get to know some of you and learn a thing or two about production here.

Hey Mike, Welcome to the forums! Ancient Methods is a fav of mine also. If you're in New York, you should definitely check out the label "New York Trax" - they've been doing a lot of releases over the last few years that are quite hard hitting.

Hi all and all the best in 2018 :)

I'm Bartek, living in Warsaw, Poland - btw any other Poland/Warsaw based ppl here ?
It's not a long time since I'm involved in techno, maybe 2 years of active listening and searching - I would say I'm into anything that makes a nice dark/tech or depressive atmosphere, especially with touch of detroit, electro or acid vibe. Some of my favourites for now: Drexciya, Subjected, Boris Divider, Umwelt, Anthony Rother etc.
On the other hand i love underground Hip-Hop as well :)

Regarding the music production, sadly I'm still struggling to finish any track i get down to and the output quality leaves much to be desired but I hope I can get better with some help from you guys :)

you probably mean dark atmosphere, no ?
Can't imagine anyone actively digging for music with a "depressive" atmosphere. :)

Hi everyone, I've been a lurker on the forum for years now and finally I say hello! :) I'm based in Vilnius, Lithuania and music production has been my hobby for the last few years. I guess I took the hard route by taking piano lessons first and learning some music theory and then slowly moving on to producing. It's been a real challenge to find time that though with two little kids running around the house :)
Anyway, Subsekt has been a continuous source of inspiration and knowledge for me!

Simple tip to get your kids interested in music as well (and save the more painful way of lessons later on in life : If you happen to have a real piano in the house, leave it open at all times so your kids have instant access. My oldest plays cello but is on my piano just as much because I always leave it open in the dining room.

great to hear that and welcome to subsekt.
if you got some of your music available somewhere, don't be afraid to show us ! ;)

Dude tell me about it.
here's a little update from the private subsekt meet :
me having to get up at 8AM to attend breakfast for Shidzo and his mrs before they left to A'dam for a day, and while I'm waiting for Prophän to wake up, I'm watching old Steffi Graf games...
I've been sick for days (nothing special, just a stubborn fucker though),
but in the last 4 days I skipped 1 entire night, and slept a maximum of 4 hours the other nights,
while I'm the oldest fuck of the 3.
Them young ones man, I tell ya, when it comes to proper sleep deprivation, they ain't worth shit. ;)
They probably need to get some kids before they truly learn to survive with little sleep if needed.
I actually have more sleep and more peace when my kids are here (they're at my parents for a week now) than at the moment, but it's totally worth it ! :)

Well, it's not like I've become a master of piano or anything, it's basic stuff but really helps to understand things like scales and chords.

Yes, I have an old piano in the house I and I hope that someday the kids might get hooked on that too. But for now it's basicaly just one more surface to drive toy cars on for my oldest who is 3. The youngest is just months old so quite early to say anything

Anyway, thanks for a warm welcome and I will try to post something in the clip thread!

Hi I'm Hans!

Sorry for the production question without presenting myself, didn't know where to do it..

I've been making techno for 8 years now, slowly started with Delsin style techno and now I'm more and more into
Marcelus kind of stuff out of the classic 4/4 kick hi-hat combo, trying to dive in more complex rhythmic and
grooves!

I'm mostly working in the box and trying to achieve a live set at the moment.

Cheers to you all and I hope i'll be able to give some hints on topics!

Sounds like fun ;-)

You're right about kids though. Sleep deprivation plus screaming in your ear is a special combination haha.

hi everyone. I'm Max from Ukraine. My story is pretty trivial. I played techno on local scene from 2004 and had some attempts to make some own music. From 2011 to 2016 I didn't do music at all and struggled with some mental issues (oh wait it was just a little depression). All my equipment and vinyl collection was sold. From 2017 I started to play again and became interested in production more than ever. It was great to find some useful tips here. Sorry for my bad english, hope to improve it here too. Cheers

Welcome to the nuthouse Max, "just a little depression" many here been through that and probably still are battling. There isn't anything little about it people are offing themselves left and right because of depression, it's a real killer. Glad you found your way through it and hope you'll excel at producing in the near future, just put in the hours and you'll get there.
