No surprise though that the founder of the website fucked over his business partner (a woman) after seven years.

And I'm no doubt this was purely a commercial decision, I imagine that URL is blocked by a good proportion of school, college and workplace firewalls.

GS. I always feel a bit dodgy in work wi-fi with it. Its not a positive word, whichever way you look at it. I'm not a pc person, but its definitely not encouraging inclusiveness. There's a larger issue though around female participation on music sites. Genuinely don't think the name change will be a magic wand either.. but its a good idea for many different reasons.

I always divided considerate/PC like this:

- considerate comes from a place of empathy, without any links to an underlying political ideology (i.e. I have friends, with whom I disagree to an extreme degree with, when it comes to politics, but where we agree on how to treat people)

- PC is usually linked to an ideology, and the standpoint is not up for debate, the same way that politicians get in line with their party, when they vote for an issue that they might not personally agree with.

Now I think both positions overlap quite a bit, but the reason, I like to distinguish between them, stems from when I was teaching at uni. A lot of the students were very active politically, especially in the field of identity politics, and I sometimes saw a tendency towards "you're either with us or against is", even if people just wanted to debate their standpoint (not even necessarily disagreeing with it). I think the tendency going towards a very black/white understanding of the world is a bit sad. Especially since a lot of the philosophical work that lay the groundwork for them is extremely not binary - Judith Butler is probably one of the greatest example, she seems to be the no. 1 thinker behind a lot of their standpoints, but I often wondered if they ever read, what she wrote, because it argues for a very fluid feminism, which is definitely not black/white.


As for Gearslutz, then I have always thought it was a very immature name, but it never really got my piss boiling (there's bigger issues I care more about)

So a Gearstlut in the context of the Gearslut is someone who has an insatiable desire to acquire gear.

It`s not insulting men or women, it`s not even being used in a sexual context. There is no intent there to insult men or women, and in the context the word is used, it is a reference to audio equipment collecting.

Well some of the vocals were provided by someone who specifically did vocals for the original track... So they are obviously cleared.
And then I added samples from an S&M gay porn video.
I don`t think S&M Gay Porn companies are too bothered about clearing samples from their porn to be used in tracks for underground Gayscene record labels that serve the S&M community, as it`s not scripted.

yeah really, the name isn`t the issue here. Unfortunately I don`t think in her case it`s anything to do with sexism and everything to do with business cuntery. So many place have had similar things happen then they grow. Someone gets greedy and shits on the rest.... That`s how facebook was born.
