There is nothing techno about this in the slightest. I would just discount them and move on with your own quest to discover new techno music artists.

I wouldn't call it techno but this is the top post on the reddit techno sub right now so some people think it is and it made me want to vomit.

Oh dear. This is tech tech trance house.
Can drunk people chant it at a festival though? Or even at a football match?

LoL at Kas:st, seriously haha
I played together with them once last year and they were doing a pretty standart deep techno liveset, i remember beeing a bit underwhelmed that night..
But it was miles from this style
Afterlife is THE cheese label no wonder they are on that train even.more now that techno is pop music
Speedy J in the stadium is funny as hell to

Well, Afterlife isn't like a techno label, it's a neo trance label really. They do have some nice releases too, even if the one in the op isn't so hot.
This is lovely for example:

Eh, you guys have no idea. Being in Texas, anything with a BPM of 110+ is called techno. It's actually really aggravating.

I've been meaning to ask this on here for quite a while now.Barfunkel wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2019 10:21 amWell, Afterlife isn't like a techno label, it's a neo trance label really. They do have some nice releases too, even if the one in the op isn't so hot.

Stuff like Afterlife is called "melodic techno",
and it's big, BIG business nowadays.
Honestly, I was totally new to that stuff too, and it took me a while to get into it,
I still don't like 90% of what I hear (god those horrible video's above),
and I only listen to it when one of my friends is over here,
but yeah, it's most certainly attracting a whole new crowd to the "techno" world...
Tale Of Us (owners of Afterlife) are literally having this private jet lifestyle where the sky literally is well...
I still don't understand how they got from their first release (which I even bought at the time, miles away from the melodic techno thing),
to where they are now in such a really really short time.
A good friend of mine (see above), relatively new to the production thing, is totally focused on making melodic techno,
and I'm still in doubt, at times kind of turned off, by how much he's focused on that whole afterlife scene.
I wanna believe he really totally is into that style of electronic music,
but I wish he was less focused on that "making it big" and more on just making good tracks, no matter what genre or subgenre...
But yeah, been at a party recently with only the best melodic techno (none of that cheesy shit from above),
and it did work. Crowd went nuts most of the night.
Doesn't mean I can listen to it for very long when sober
One of the things I really like about (GOOD) "melodic techno", is that they really leave room for the synth sounds to properly breathe in the mix.
It's like, they kind of revive the love for good old synth sounds (Jupiter/Juno brass stuff for example),
just like they tend to do in that whole synth wave genre, but with a techno flavor to it.
What I usually hate about the genre is how much they always gotta have those impact moments,
but then again, look at the whole "big room techno" thing, is that really that much better ??
And the noise leads, kind of get tired of that cliché as well...

I think you'd be surprised, cause I think some of us here really do.medusascoil wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 5:23 pmEh, you guys have no idea. Being in Texas, anything with a BPM of 110+ is called techno. It's actually really aggravating.
Just speaking for myself now, but back in my teenage years (the 90's), the small town I grew up in...
you were either into "rock" or "dance".
As if no other genres existed.
And to think Belgium was making fucking awesome trance at the time,
yet to most common folks, that's all they could think of to describe what they were hearing.
At least you got some excellent BBQ action going on...

On the subject of the Artist, I was listening to this track months ago and tried to find an answer to a lingering question in relation to this track:
youtu.be/qIY9boEt1uM
I did search online but couldn't find any explanation. The track information doesn't credit anyone else. I hope its another kind of arrangement because it is clearly not referred to as a remix. I'm not the crediting police, I'm just curious. Or... am I perhaps trippin' regarding the similarities? In fact, I hope I am, I really hope its just me.
Can someone please share an objective opinion?

You think the track you posted is not made by them?

regarding Speedy J...
He is a born(?) and bred Rotterdam guy, Feyenoord is the biggest club in Rotterdam, and Pullover was a big hit in the Rotterdam hardcore scene. Lots of Feyenoord supporters were part of that scene... So, it's not that uncanny. Great track though, a true classic.
A few years ago, my late wife said she wanted to watch a big football game to soak up the atmosphere, which surprised me. She was a big sports fan, but not into football. She was from Amsterdam, but had chosen a Feyenoord game... Tell that to a Ajax fan.
Wasn't so exiting though, shit game, no Pullover, 45.000 people going 'meh, shit game'. Disappointed,...

That Afterlife stuff is the definition of cheese to me. Boring shit they play at festival sunrise.

I've enjoyed some of Afterlifes earlier releases, especially Woo Yorks contributions to the label.

Now I've grown a bit tired of that sound in general, but anyway the direction they are going is very disappointing, exemplified in this thread. They are clearly following the smell of money, aiming for an even wider audience with every release it seems...
