Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
I will quote a friend of mine
Imagine a genre of music becoming so stale and self-referencing, that one of it´s major innovators "mistakenly" releases someone else´s track, thinking it was one of their own.
Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
after 25 years of bleeps over 909 with some spaccey strings, i'd imagine all that shit starts to sound the same.

Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
Hey everyone, looking for some feedback on a track. It's a WIP but I've already called it The Bells.
Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
All the years of chasing aliens on his 909 (which is actually his spaceship) finally got to him

Ill just sit here shaking my head disapprovingly

Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
Interestingly Emanuel the thieving lying ass biscuit of Arts picked up on this article on facefuck and started hoiking it saying "SEE even Mills makes mistakes"
No man. It's one thing releasing some similar music via a label that has it's own team, but accidentally stealing someone's tune, accidentally pitching the tune up a bit then accidentally dubbing your own kick drum and hats over it, then accidentally releasing it under a different name and accidentally claiming it was a sample a friend got from YouTube and then accidentally discovering that friend had mysteriously and accidentally disappeared and couldn't corroborate.... Well I think that's probably a stretch.
But respect for persistently not admitting to a truth that everyone knows by now.......
Once a thief.......

I was reading about FLOD on the other thread and I read on one of your replies about Emanuel.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Tue Feb 19, 2019 12:29 pmInterestingly Emanuel the thieving lying ass biscuit of Arts picked up on this article on facefuck and started hoiking it saying "SEE even Mills makes mistakes"

I had no idea about the work he stole under Confucio alias and god I feel really stupid because I somehow had him as a big deal in my head because I liked many of the ARTS featured artists.
That was outrageous, the guy is probably a bigger cunt even than FLOD cause he is also promoting the profile of the artistic label owner that promotes good artists. god I feel stupid (i ll say it many times)
One major thing that for me raises many questions is that on the Resident Advisor article about his plagiarism as Confucio NOWHERE is mentioned that he is actually Emanuel from ARTS while fact magazine does mention it. RA probably was trying to protect him.
anyway I think that that's a major lesson for me as someone who was not into techno till some years ago and got easily enthusiated. it does change a lot on how to approach some artists and their work from now on
RA article link https://www.residentadvisor.net/news/29274
and the Fact Magazine where is clearly mentioned that Confucio=Emanuel https://www.factmag.com/2015/04/20/tres ... lagiarism/

Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
His label is quite "big" so a lot of "artists" are willing to suck satans cock and pretend none of that shit happened so they get a release.
Integrity is not valued much these days.

I would belive more in Mills saying that Aliens did it. But yeah, I doubt that Jeff is doing more that approving things that will be released on his label. He's too busy being abducted.

Faceless techno innit. The names shouldn't matter, DJs should not be on a stage, "live" acts with some guy with a baseball cap wiggling knobs are not interesting to look at fuck them rock stars and their egos and money and coke!
Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
the main thing that gets me is that Mills often talks about process and channelling and exploration of some lifelong idea. So you would think that with all that rhetoric and explanation of his work, he would be able to tell what is his or not. It would all be working to some plan or process that he is holding to.
If you find it on a cd that you know is a mix of your own and other's demos, don't you look for the session if you don't remember making it? It's weird.
On the other side, it's a huge compliment to the other guy.

Yeah. The Emmanuel thing is not relevant for this debacle, althoug it once again opens up the discussion of auteurship or lact thereof within techno (or electronic dance music more broadly defined) or the whole 'faceless techno bollocks' thing, which has been a misguided but not entirely wrong critique from the rockist commenters since day 1 of rave.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Tue Feb 19, 2019 12:29 pmInterestingly Emanuel the thieving lying ass biscuit of Arts picked up on this article on facefuck and started hoiking it saying "SEE even Mills makes mistakes"

Why is it wrong for Jeff Mills releasing this under his own name? I mean if you have thousands of worker bees cloning your work, shouldn't it at some be fair to say you're the original copyright holder, so to speak. Well..
At the same time the whole Mills Business thing kinda stinks and he, as of course not the only example, become a kind of self-parody by now, so to see the Mills Empire exposed a bit doesn't hurt.
It's paradoxical though, the whole faceless/"scenius"/assembly line thing of techno was oddly liberating and still is as it bypasses the whole artist/genius thing. Also it feels completely wrong to listen to track upon track and be completely unable to discern any personal differences, style, expression whatsoever. That's nothing new though; listen to more or less any acid, jungle or drum-techno track from the 90s; the same thing.
Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
a lot of releases from ARTS are nice and pretty interesting. That's why I feel so confused, I cannot unlike what I enjoy but it bothers me so much that in there is this Emanuel guy behind that.over9000 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 19, 2019 9:37 pmyeah i wondered about this too..

Imagine that I was sad that I couldn't get to meet him when he was in Athens 2 years ago
I think we should focus more on the much younger producers like the ones promoted via Jaelos or Kandle channel in youtube or in our local scenes. I have to admit that many times I catched myself keeping the cash for a gig by a non local producer/dj, being just a victim to the hype.
Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
After just posting the above reply I noticed that one of the younger artists I had discovered through the platforms I mentioned, Jeanne, has released in ARTS on that recent compilation
anyway I really can't care anymore, I ll just stick to the music

.. ok just checked those channel of curiosity. Now I feel old.promoted via Jaelos or Kandle channel in youtube
Re: Jeff Mills mistakenly releases another producer's track as his own
yeah i think that that is strange too. as djs, you're able to hear a track played and if you have it in your collection, you'll be able to mentally picture the vinyl and the side it is on etc, as it has an emotional connection to you. but he has tracks that he cannot remember making, even though they have made such an impact on him that he is willing to release it. it seems at odds with the music as art, music as a story idea he pushes.buffered wrote: ↑Wed Feb 20, 2019 3:14 amthe main thing that gets me is that Mills often talks about process and channelling and exploration of some lifelong idea.
