Quarantine
Re: Quarantine
I was too bored today and rode a bicycle around the city, it also doesn't help that the weather is really nice in Berlin. I feel like these next couple days are gonna be crucial, if the weather goes like this it'll be harder and harder to stay at home.

Re: Quarantine
I think the lockdown was needed after people's reaction to the pub closures.
Friday: pubs are closed!
Saturday: Snowdonia has biggest crowds in living memory!

I believe living in Madrid right now. The most densely populated city in Europe and you can hardly leave your apartment.

Re: Quarantine
It's kinda weird here in Sweden, kids are allowed to go to school but my better half and I are working from home and we have told everyone at our company to work from home and so are many others. IMO the Swedish authorities are being a bit too relaxed, so people are still gathering just in much smaller numbers (under 500 is allowed still!) and the communication of what they are doing is shit. They say they are waiting for the numbers to get worse, do the right thing. The head of the hospitals in Stockholm is saying it's already bad..
Personally I don't mind staying at home for long periods of time as-long as I can get some quiet time, but it's a real problem for a lot of people.

Do you have any books she could read? The right book might be all it takes to get her into reading.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 2:04 pmWell, no kids here, but the missus isn't coping too well.
She has no hobbies or interests, I've tried for years to get her into stuff she seems to like, but she always gives up, her job pretty much is her main life.
I am her hobby/interest but as a hardcore introvert I get very drained being with people and need space for decompression.
She drove me mad at the weekend, it was like having a kid. I felt like putting on a dancing monkey costume by the end of it.
Thankfully she has work today, and so do I.
I'm going to have to find some shit to keep her occupied.
Other than that things are ok.

They are mostly boxed up until we put up new shelving in the office. Which is on my task list. Putting up shelves this weekend in an old pantry... Not sure I will be able to order the book units I want following that. Unlikely ey.
She loves hulahooping. We have a lovely new landscaped garden and the weather is getting better so I'm gonna push her to do that.
I'm also planning on getting her into computer games.
Nice pretty explorative type games. I think the Indy game world is ripe for this.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Re: Quarantine
I think it's the perfect time to get into that Animal Crossing game
Re: Quarantine
Yeah gaming is a good one, the nights are still kinda long and the weather is nice but you won't get such a guilty feeling of playing indoors rather than going out.

I got my Octatrack out of the cupboard. I’d given up on it due to lack of time and how hard it was to learn.
If there’s ever going to be a time to learn how to use the fucker, it’s now!

Re: Quarantine
Barely been on here due to starting a new job a few weeks ago and trying to make a good impression working remotely.
Which isn't going 100% to plan due to a kid that doesn't quite understand what is going on and needs attention so making up for it through the evening.
Also drinking more heavily than usual, which was borderline functioning alcoholic anyway. I guess cabin fever is taking it's toll.
On the plus side, my biggest worry at this stage is I hope I can get out to feed the stray cats in my area rather than how do I pay rent and bills. Which isn't too far away but I'm kinda OK for now.

p.s. it's fake.
In all seriousness though, take it easy. Don't end up on the 'most at risk' list.

I tend to keep myself busy with cooking, making music,... like before.
Going to a supermarket has become a weird experience for sure.
Hope you're all safe and sound and not slowly losing your minds like some of my friends.
Pretty much the same deal for me. Living alone, working from home, my hours are being cut slightly but I can take it and it's a bit more time for producing. Planning to spend a bit more time really getting to know my hardware better.
I think I can keep it happy and productive for the time being but it'll take a bit of motivation to keep in good routines - getting up early and structuring my days well etc. As I know that getting stuff done, and my mental health in general, really depends on a good bit of routine. So I'm trying to get up same time I normally would for work, get in my Government mandated exercise in the form of a decent walk or a bike ride, get my work done then do lots of production/DJ shit.
It's already feeling a bit easy to tell myself "ah well you've got lots of time now" and I know one too many late nights with Netflix and a beer and a joint could easily fuck up my plans to make the best of this strange time!
Re: Quarantine
I'm currently working from home last week and this week. My company has proposed that we take a 2 week holiday as of next week (although remain flexible to take calls and emails) I have no problem with this as we all need to do whatever it takes to keep things moving.
Then it's been proposed that we use the furlough scheme. I've been told by the european vice president that he will ask the german parent company for 100% pay to be covered. Fingers crossed they except, but 80% is manageable tbh. How long that will last who knows. The immediate future is good, I think it will be towards the end of the year to see if i might be made redundant.
My wife is back to work this week! The company she works for do all sorts of secret work for government and military electronic projects and they have to much to stop. (Her going to work is probably how we would potentially catch this virus now).
So I'm at home with the kids and working on and off. The kids are well behaved (at the moment) and are not causing me to many headaches or video conference interruptions lol.
But I will have some time to make music again and im inspired by recent events to do some new stuff. I was planning on buying a new pc and thunderbolt interface last month and I'm glad i didnt but i will have to make do with what i have and hope my win7 pc doesn't get hacked. Things could be a lot lot worse right now.

The worst part is they don't even know why they are feeling so horrible - and we aren't even in full lock down yet.
Re: Quarantine
Life is pretty much normal here for me.. except for the family being here 24/7. It's nice to be able to go to work & escape tbh. Really enjoy a chat with my colleagues too. That hasn't changed, but I value it more now I guess.
I'm an essential worker, so I have a letter allowing me to smash through checkpoints without stopping. Hadn't happened yet.. and I'm a little bit disappointed by this absence of this drama.
Yep.. still somewhat surreal in a way as it hasn't totally kicked off in the same way here in Ireland (Thank fuck) that it has in other countries.
My relatives in the UK are having a hard time getting milk every day . They live in Bedfordshire. They say there's a limit on buying multiple items in the shops.
Also having major problems buying chocolate Hobnobs apparantly. Just when you thought the global pandemic couldn't get any worse, eh?

Re: Quarantine
We Finns are probably the social distancing and self-isolation world champions regardless of circumstance.
The Finnish government's response has been swift and decisive; by their request, everyone's self-quarantined for weeks already and working from home; even restaurants have been ordered to close and only takeaway/delivery is available; the national stockpile has been opened and distributed; non-essential travel in and out of Uusimaa (the region including and surrounding Helsinki, where I live) is being enforced by the police, etc. - the works.
Finns being Finns, we're compliant and sequestering at home; the businesses have of course been hit very, very hard like everywhere and the government is taking out billions in new loans to support ailing businesses and the country in general; over 10 % of the Finnish workforce is basically furloughed (and there will be more), but unions/unemployment funds/insurance and the government are paying out benefits as fast as they can, although the application processes have crawled to a halt due to massive increases in number of applications. Finland is about 80 % self-sufficient, so we're not running out of anything essential; there was some hoarding at first, but now the shelves are full and filled like nothing's going on.
I'm in IT and would've been able and allowed to work from home even before the pandemic, so I'm still working full time - every other week, because I'm also on paternal leave (with full pay) - our boy is now six-and-a-half weeks old and I've been staying at home since his birth. I've still got a week of paternal leave left and after a fortnight I'll get back to work full time - but from home until the government lifts the special measures. So I'm good here - it's good to be a Finn. Things will be more than fine for me and my family - I'm getting way, way more time with my boy than I expected and having both parents constantly present with an infant makes taking care of everything easier.
But I have a metric ton of friends who are shit out of luck - DJs, LJs, promoters etc. and they're just fucked. A lot of them work hand to mouth with no financial buffers and will go bankrupt; there will be financial havoc in their lives a long, foreseeable future - a lot of Summer events have been summarily cancelled and things won't be going back to normal for a long time, I'm expecting a timespan of a year, maybe two - and even then things will be different, forever.
Personally, I have no fear - due to being neuroatypical - there's just an acute statistical realization of the things that could happen. The wife has asthma, so basically a bad case of the seasonal flu could take her to the ICU, and our boy's immune system is yet to fully develop, so I'm taking any and all precautions - within reason. We're not a social couple and prefer to be at home rather than go out, so we're just getting more of what we like anyway; our flat is big enough to give us a lot of room to maneuver - so no cabin fever or interpersonal trench warfare.
I'm one lucky cunt.
