ugh, did 1 google image search, and I already know chances are very big that I'm gonna dream about some situation like that this evening.
I'm afraid of heights, and even seeing pics like that already get me freaked out.........................................

Haha I know, I think anyone with a bit of empathy will find it hard not to feel something while watching free solo climbing! When watching it did struck me how extremely determined you need to be to go through with that though. As well as strong and fearless ofc, not letting your concentration rest for a millisecond unless your on safe ground. Cant think anything more extreme tbh, truly fascinating.

As for fear of heights I share your fascination as well. Growing up in Norway meant lots of time spent in mountains, on skis mostly, so I'm used to heights as well. Also done parachuting and walked the Caminito del Ray (before rebuild but with a harnest) without it bothering me much or giving me the adrenaline rush I expected, while standing on top of a latter can make my legs weak... I guess its not really a fear of heights but rather a fear falling and getting hurt, which is rational obviously, so if you feel the chance of getting hurt is minimal it dosent matter how high above the ground you are. Your climbing experience is a perfect example of that.

Lovely mountain bike pic though, I sold my bikes and kind of gave up on it when I moved to Netherlands but thinking to do a mtb holiday next year and will deg check out Livigno!

I thought Men Against Fire was particularly poignant and a lot deeper than it's given credit for - ethnic cleansing, dehumanising the "enemy", manufacturing public consent and rank and file soldiers in situations way beyond their political understanding. Five seconds at the very end was a fantastic critique on how governments view their soldiers post service. Not only did the implants facilitate unquestionable killing on the battlefield, when their duty is done they can be abandoned in squalor away from society.

True that, and when you say it its probably true for several of the episodes, they'll need more than one viewing for a deeper understanding. Luckily I've seen most episodes only once so have a good reason to start over, problem will be to convince the missus of the same...

"Struggle: The Life and Lost Art of Szukalski"

Just watched this, excellent.

Stanisław Szukalski was a polish artist. He was also a visionary, a genius, a maverick and quite possibly a lunatic. Even if you're not that interested in art, this is worth watching for this crazy bastard's life story.

BUT he did create some truly beautiful sculptures too. I'd never heard of him, but within about 5 minutes I knew this was going to be great.

A couple of highlights/facts:
He found school boring, so created his own alphabet in class, which he continued to use throughout his life.
He was accepted into art college at 14, gaining one of only 11 places from an application list of 170+, after being asked to create a sculpture from a live nude and only sculpting her knee.
He was commisioned by Hitler to create something depicting Hilter and Goebbels (pre WWII), sent a sketch of Hitler in a ballet tutu which was sent back and was told they no longer required his services.
Someone described him as having 'more megalomania than you normally see in an actual megalomaniac'.

Another NF show I'm starting to watch is Trigger Warning with Killer Mike from Run The Jewels. Love RTJ.. and the show is quite funny, with a fair bit of social history in it too. Interesting.

Not 100% as to how tounge in cheek everything is.. but there are definitely some strange, almost Partridge (possibly unintentional) moments in it.

Really recommend this. Beautiful film. Amazing story & incredible artist. Wow.

NORTHERN SOUL

Just noticed they have this movie on Netflix, I think it's great.

For anyone that doesn't know, northern soul was/is a British phenomenon that started in the late 60's and blossomed in the 70's around black american soul music. This was rave 20 years before rave. They used to have dance all nighters at places like the Wigan Casino with dancers travelling from all over the country, necking amphetines and dancing till 8am. Obscure records were prized above well known ones, DJ's would cover up the labels of tracks they had found that were popular with the dancers so other DJ's couldn't play them in their sets.

This movie is about a young lad that gets caught up in this phenomenon and the journey he takes. The authenticity of 70's Britain is portrayed very well, there's some decent acting but the thing they got absolutely spot on is the club scenes - something that often gets borked in movies.

Watch it and pretend that you were there.

Yeah that was great. His art was referenced heavily in the film Chronicles of Riddick

Punisher season 2 is wonderfully brutal.
Every single character is damaged in some way, some different form of PTSD.
Great.

Russian Doll is also very good. Arty time loop sci fi short series.

Revenger is also great, a straight up now nonsense martial arts film with a real 70's vibe and amazing choreography. Has a Bruce Lee vibe to it.

Latest series of Always Sunny is worth watching and has a finale that unexpectedly elevates itself to a tearful, transcendent work of art. Not what you expect from Always Sunny, but you have to see it to believe it.

I find lyonne quite captivating.


Just finished watching season 1 of Nightflyers.

That was a ride, consistently surprising, grotesque, creepy and unsettling in a variety of ways.
Genuinely disturbing in places, space/sci fi horror is a genre I love and it rarely gets done this well.
I really hope there is a season 2.

Ok, she's not a criminal in jail in RD.. but it either shows her lack of range &/or exposes it as a 'vehicle' .. a-la Joey, after Friends finished. IMO

I literally don`t think it could have been done with anyone else, it was literally written for her.
She`s quite a well known underground/arty movie actress and she definitely has a type, but like anyone who has a specific type, ala Christopher Walken, you either dig it or not.
I think she`s fantastic, I could watch her eat crisps.
