Re: Label question
nah its easy.. You just hop on a train and tube. Most clubs are a quick walk away from their designated tube station.juodas wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 10:49 pmthing is i'm afraid to get lost, looolRWise wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 8:20 pmI pretty much always go to london for events. Only thing that is a bit brutal is the morning journey back. Stepping out the club into the sunshine whilst everyone goes to work all part of the fun though!

Re: Label question
Maybe it's a generational and DIY culture thing but my god, eurgh. Desperate and cringe-worthy.
It makes sense these people are approaching kinda meanstream acts.
Imagine waiting outside a theatre for an actor "look look, watch me act"
Or a comedy club, going up to a comic and trying to tell them jokes....
Eurgh......
Bad etiquette too.
These are the times we are in, desperate and flagrant.
Re: Label question
Or maybe my friend was being an opportunist and taking advantage of the situation. This is music we are talking about and In that instance, he wants DVS1 to hear what he has to say through his music. .Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 11:30 pmImagine waiting outside a theatre for an actor "look look, watch me act"

Ok so what, he didnt have a heartfelt conversation with him backstage sitting on beer stained couches. But at least he managed to get his music to him via a physical means that took a bit more effort than a cold email. A usb with some music and a note writing what he would of liked to express in person... The chances of him being in a situation where he could of initially had a real conversation with the man is slim to none at that time. But now he HAS built that relationship after essentially introducing himself with his music,.
Not every ones intentions are so hollow and insincere like you make them out to be. It was just another means of starting that relationship with the artist. Not a case of some random fucknut going to a different gig every weekend, handing out a generic usb to any DJ who might be playing...

Re: Label question
Think about all the people making techno. Half the audience at a party is a DJ or a producer.
Imagine if everyone did that....
A queue of dudes with USB sticks by the booth......
"Oh please holy one, bless me with your grace"....
Brrrrrr.

Re: Label question
Well thankfully that doesnt seem to be the case. Over-saturation of anything is bad. Just as it would be if there were half the club managing to get backstage to try and chat with the DJ, aye?

Re: Label question
I handed out a CD-R to DJs about three times in recent years. Even though it led to nothing, it was always well received: with a hug, a compilation for which it was the release party for or simply the assurance it would be listened to. I wouldn't hand out demos like this nowadays but would rather give away records. This way it's just (hopefully) a nice gift without any expectations. I do this very rarely and always try to be super specific.
Re: Label question
And I just remember that one guy running a small but well respected House label giving me the tip to give away physical demos since he always listens to them and has a positive impression about people doing that. I think that's why I gave a couple of CD-Rs away in the first place.
Re: Label question
Well, everyone is free to do what they want with their USB Sticks. If it helps to bring out good music then go for it I'd say.

Re: Label question
Is there nothing going on in Brighton these days?
Techno is everywhere now, there must be something good going on down there.

Re: Label question
thomas schumacher was last friday, it was an event with a progressive house, and he played some techno i think at the beggining, what i hate the most is that if they start with techno they're always end up with a fucking cheesy prog house. And there was spektre event by the sea front, i decided to go there, it was garry burrows as well there, however they didn't show up, quite sad and they closed at 3am, i tried to get to another venue, but i was way to pissed so they didn't let me in , however after second time at Volks they let me in, and i had decent night with psy trance, it was quite fun.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 11:26 amIs there nothing going on in Brighton these days?

Re: Label question
Ah Volks.
Used to love that place.
Well, if there is no techno in Brighton, and techno is the most commercial dance music. Currently, then I would say there is a gap in the market.
A smart person would start putting on events.

Re: Label question
Brighton is very dry for techno at the moment man (the tech-house and disco scene is massive here). However me and some friends have been trying to build the scene back up. Theres a small amount of people who still want it.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 2:39 pmAh Volks.

We recently put on a couple events at one of the new clubs that just opened. Last one was a half success. got the club half capacity and people did seem to enjoy it, but you find as soon as you start going a bit harder, people enjoy it for like 20 mins and then find it too much.
Another problem is everyone here seems to leave the club at like 3. Thats when it should start properly kicking off! We want to do an after hours, like Jaded at corsica, as the new club Hideout in btown has a 24 hour license because its on the seafront.
We have even been contemplating trying out Volks for some nights, but the DnB scene has fully taken volks as their home. So not sure how well it would pan out...

Re: Label question
But its definitely a work in progress. I think if we started getting something on the regular, maybe 2 times a month with a signature vibe in music, people would start clocking on and hopefully we'd build a good little family of punters to come.

Re: Label question
What I like to do is put some hardcore porn onto a usb stick and hand it to artists in clubs.
Re: Label question
Make your own sextape and put your new trax on as the background soundtrack. Now that's a proper demo tapeDanDanDanDan wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 11:18 pmWhat I like to do is put some hardcore porn onto a usb stick and hand it to artists in clubs.
