Ableton 10

Post by Planar »

So it's finally been officially announced: https://www.ableton.com/en/live/

Looks a nice upgrade to me with less focus on Push than I feared even as a Push user. I'm especially glad to see the tighter max4live integration, editing multiple midi clips at once and groups within groups. Lots of nice new devices and I like the newer UI look.

The only thing that piques my interest from the screenshot is the effect 'Backdoor'.

So many questions.

hmm i was hoping for workflow improvements. groups in groups and edit several clips at the same time is cool. not sure if i need another synth or compressor. hopefully there are lots of minor things that they just didnt mention.

There's quite a few changes listed at the bottom of the page. Quite a few should affect workflow.

Wavetable looks good. Echo looks good also, I kind of don't like the existing reverbs in Ableton so that appeals to me.

'Drum Buss' sounds alright, i've personally stopped using buss processing for now but I'm sure many will find that useful.

New Push features also look quite cool, though personally I hardly use any of the existing features. A lot of product to learn in that thing!

Shame they've not looked at the mixer at all. I feel like a lot of people dislike how you can only see that on session view.

Looks like a good update, though. And 9 is on sale right now.

Modulation improvements aren't as good as I had hoped but at least M4L is now native and the mod devices can modulate up to 8 parameters. Otherwise, nothing major that's super important to me but lots of nice little things.

some good changes in there.. but damn 200€ (now)/ 250€(regular) update prices from Suite9 to Suite10 seems a bit harsh.

edit: now thinking about it.. cubes has a update every year and they even charge for .5 updates..

Just scanning atm..

Nice additions to Utility.

Groups within groups ftw.

Capture seems like a similar feature in Logic. Nice.

Shaper tool looks cool. That's new to 10 I take It?

Wonder if they have introduced a dedicated shortcut for 'crop' ????!!

Probably not..

The most important one is that as soon as you install Live 10,
your work space/living room/studio/bedroom/... will start looking instantly well arranged, full of stylish interior and just spick and span in general, really.
Just look at all those rooms in the video...

I bet it even funks up your hairdo ! 8-)

Looks like a nice update,

especially like the editing multiple midi clips, groups within groups is nice, not life changing but nice to have. Some of the new audio editing looks useful as well. The capture feature is really nice as well.

I was hoping that they'd unearth the show devices hidden feature and make it work properly. Would be cool to be able to switch off entire rows of plugins, open them from that view and not have to resize to see newly added plugins. Not the end of the world though by any means.

Looks good overall.

that's gonna be great, especially for those of us who play in a lot of stuff instead of just clicking notes in.
I usually already record long sessions and then cut to the best parts,
but there's still moments when I start improvising and I haven't turned on recording yet, so yeah, super stuff !!
(I wonder if there's a limit on how many measures it can capture ??)

WOw, lots of little improvements to workflow.

Capture looks great, I`m always jamming around and never recording.

I`m sure upgrading wasn`t nearly as expensive last iteration though.

Cheeky bastards.

Wow, can't believe I've been so out of touch on 'new tech'.

This looks so good! They've addressed so many things that bugged me and added some new great looking features!

Sweet.

Yeah not too sure on that one and I haven't got the beta. It just says the last phrase in the vids, maybe you can choose how long a phrase is, or it's predetermined.

Would be cool if it could do quite long captures. I'm the same, I record long passes but definitely play over the top without recording as well, this'll get used all the time no doubt.

''Improved mixing

For anyone who still questions the quality of Live’s sound engine, there are a few improvements here. According to Ableton, Live 10 has improved gain range, a new Bass Mono feature in Utility, extended low frequency slopes on EQ Eight and a Split Stereo Pan feature that provides “more detailed control” when mixing.''

I've never questioned the quality of live, I'm just interested in the improved gain rage comment. Is it referring to increased headroom or something like that? That's from fact magazines article btw.
