Pedals or fx boxes you are into or wanna get?

Post by OHADOHAD »

How's it going?
Looking to add another cool pedal or fx box for my setup, to be honest not sure what I'm looking for haha
but I like hands-on, cool stuff, I'm flexible with price.. just ordered and then canceled enjoy electronics reminder... it looks cool but super big for what it is, and not sure it sounds like 650 euro worth of fx box.
Other than that, I've got Meris Polymoon and would like the new pedal to play nice with my 0coast/division department 01IV/Moog subharmonicon.

So what's cool? what are you eyeing or would want to buy?

Honestly, it's a jungle, the pedal world. so many manufacturers, big and small!
Was gonna mention Meris. I had been looking at Hedra Pedal for a while, but figured I can get by with Eventide plugins for the time being. Besides, I got a Zoia last year, which does a lot, but needs to get used to if you haven't used it for a while.
Personally, I'd only spend money at a decent guitar/bass pedal compressor at the moment.

I really like my Meris polymoon, also had mercury7 at some point... looking at the ottobit, but wonder if it works and techno/experimental world..
How do you like the Zoia? was thinking about that one as well... does it sounds good? what are you running through it?

We have an OTO BAM at the studio.. sounds great, but not a fan of the interface with these dots.. the boum looks simpler than that in terms of interface thou.

I quite like it, although I can't use it to its full potential at the moment. Need to wrap my head around the CV logic to get more out of it. At the moment it's teamed up with the MD which sends midi to the Zoia, in the guise of an FM synth. Mostly it's in my guitar chain as a looper/delay/reverb/mod pedal. It's crazy how complex you can get with switches/mixers/modulators.
Sound and build quality are excellent (it's built on the AnalogueDevices Shark chips).

That Ottobit jr looks nice... (as you have said, maybe not for techno, but that's often my first thought about a lot of pedals.)

This one got mentioned here before, been looking at it for a while...

i have a boum, sounds great imho. may not suit everyone though as it has limited features/editability.. particularly the compressor.
my current fav pedals are - chandler germanium drive & eh operation overlord (actually have two of these, think ill sell one of them) - for adding a nice bit of presence/tone. benidub make some v nice stuff too. as borg says, theres infinite choice out there... the tough part is getting pedals that work with line level synths/drum machines. i also have a doepfer beauty case with phg i/o & some feedback pre-am emulation modules.

yea, i use a radial di box for the guitar pedals on ext sends.
i might be wrong but id wonder about the quality of the transformer in an 8 quid attenuator...

You pay for the box, up to reasonably high end stuff it's all resistive dividers, at most 50 cents for the actual components that do the attenuating.
Though the guitar scene apparently likes to keep it all a bit mysterious and/or vague, and you get dumb shit like *active* attenuators that can also amplify o_0
how far do you want to go

I've tried behringer type cheapo/budget DI boxes & though they 'work'.. they're no substitute for the functionality & quality of sound that a good transformer based DI provides.

Resistor / circuit board based stuff is great for the price, but there is no comparison. Sound can even 'improve' a little with some slight harmonic distortion via the transformer/s.

I have got one. It is a great unit and the signalpath (gain, hipass, comp, drive, lowpass, gate) gives lots of possibilities. Sidechaining is good as well. Really like it but the circuits 2-4 are way too intdnse if driven hard.

Actually eyeing Death by audio Rooms now... crazy sounding pedal, can go from subtle cool reverb to crazy drones and crashing.

I’ve got a Line6 Hx Effects I really like. Tons of different effects, capable of splitting audio signal to process it along 2 different effect chains, midi compatible, all in all a pretty nice box

I think I'm going to buy Red Panda particle and Dredbox Hypnosis as my next fx purchases.

I had a Hypnosis for a few weeks and found it pretty disappointing: the whole thing sounds lofi and band-limited (which can be cool sometimes but not in this case for me) and the reverb overdrives too easily and really needs some kind of basic EQ. The fixed nature of the routing ended up feeling too limiting as well.

Anyone into Meris pedals? Hedra or ottobit?
Already got the polymoon which is amazing!
To be honest not sure what I'm looking for... just something that would give me the extra cool stuff :)
