I think Hendrik / Opuswerk has a vermona - He might have some cunning ideas with the claps

The Vermona does have individual outs. Still not owning a mixer though, I just use the main output. I need to have a bit more of a play with it in all honesty to try and get the best out of the snare and clap. But to my ears, I still think they sound a bit weak.
Thank you for the laughs, debate, new music found, production tips etc etc over the years. I wish Subsekt and everyone all the best for the future. Wiu.

That's the problem with buying software I find is that it doesn't hold any resale value. If you buy classic hardware you may even get more than what you paid for it initially. I rarely buy new hardware.

Yes, softsynths have been my worst purchase recently.
Most are ok as bits of kit, I just realised I prefer hardware, and have never used a softsynth in the final mix of a track.
My least used is Synthix, which is way overly complex. You want to tweak the filter setting of a pre-set? You are diving through levels of the synth instead of just moving one knob in the GUI.
Diva is the best sounding and easiest to use, but I still prefer my hardware.
Back a decade or so, my worst purchases were the two Novation Roland inspired modules, the Bass Station and Drum Station. Both sounded weak IMHO.

I think that my alesis midi verb 4 is better than ANY reverb vst that I have.

I had tha drumstation as well. It was ok but it sounded far from a 909 or 808. I sampled it and got rid. Pretty pointless sampling it tbh because I just use 909 samples Now if I want that sound lol

Worst I ever bought was a UA1176. Utter crap and silly money! Nothing like a real one, not that I expected it to be the same, but at least in the ballpark, faithful recreation of the original circuit my arse. Sold it and built myself a load of comps and EQs with the proceeds. Since then I DIY as much of my own kit as possible, almost my whole studio is DIY now. Can't beat it for bang for buck!

ICN, I was thinking of getting a nocturn simply because i prefer moving my mouse and twisting a nob and quickly going to another nob and twisting it: the closest thing you can get to a material synth. It seems like this wasn't worth it for yoru workflow. If I should buy a nocturn, what reason should I buy it for? What needs must be my priority for it to be even considered worth the cash?

Worst thing I ever bought was a Casper Electronics Drone Lab V2. I bought it thinking, ah class, nice mini synth for making drones alongside my other gear but it just sounded weak, digital and limited. Don't know what I was thinking as I had already had my modular under way at that point, and that can do all that the Drone Lab could do but better. Sold it and bought another module.

Also, no intention of opening a can of worms and I'm expecting to have the head bitten off me here but... why would you ever not crack a piece of software to see if you like it first before buying? At least, hardware has a resell value, if you get it second hand and hate it, you'll probably get what you paid back for it.

I've got one of them, it was given to me for free to be fair. The effects are pretty comedy, guess you can't argue for the price though. Crackly as f**k, think I'll stick it on Gumtree and see if anyone wants to try and fix it!

Numark USB turntable. It's a terrible piece of kit. Comparing the recordings I did through it to recording straight in from the Rane TTM-57SL into Serato, it's night and day.

Not a bad piece of gear, just something I regret selling was my Korg Trinity. Was a good piece of kit, that kept me away from the computer for a long while.

Emu Orbit - Ha! We used to make tunes just hitting random on that thing. There were some decent pad sounds on it though.
Cue 3 2013 - Devil's Advocate.

See what this is all about at oddmyth.ca

Yeah.. I'd one of those USB turntables.

The grooves in the records make the arm jump, even with extra weights applied. Made in China for 50p piece of shit.

I suspect it has been some plugins.
Theres a problem with resale value and tbh, today, you
can do sweet stuff with just freeware.
I also bought some sample cds (downloadable) and
there's almost no need for that given you can get tons of good free stuff as well.

Ah, i dunno :ugeek:

Ahhhh this thread is back! Since writing my post, I've actually learnt to love the Vermona DRM. I'm still not mad about the clap and snare, but the kick is just fucking awesome. As I've continued my hardware spending spree, I use it all the time now.

If I had to name my worst bit of kit as of now, I'd say my Akai S1000 sampler. Not because it's that bad, but simply because it's so difficult to understand the damn manual. I have a new found respect for the producers of yesteryear who used these (and other) samplers. That said, time stretching stuff on it gets that awesome old skool kinda sound that I've never been able to get with audio files in Logic.
Thank you for the laughs, debate, new music found, production tips etc etc over the years. I wish Subsekt and everyone all the best for the future. Wiu.

It seems strange if you think about it that there isn't a better market for second hand software plugins, given that there is no wear and tear issue at all. As long as the license is properly transferred through the software supplier then you're golden. It's no different to buying new except it's cheaper.

Seems to me we're almost missing a second hand software plugin marketplace. Can you sell software licenses on ebay?
