@hades with tame do you mean there is too much reverb or do you mean too low in volume.

Too low in volume, sure, but most of all that they don't have enough sting, just like I said.
I would start using slight distortion, maybe some gentle overdrive or perhaps a bit crusher.
And most definitely a transient designer.

Oh ffs, i took out that sound, put it back in, I honestly don't know any more!!!

With regards to the bass and the groove, I use Subboombass. It's pretty dam awesome, and easy to understand. And the sound is really great.

When it comes to writing a groove, I just work with a 2 bar bass, and tap out notes til they sound good, but always with the 1st note starting at the same time as the kick. Nothing complex.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I actually mean change or replace the sound, not take it out completely.
FFS, can you not read my mind ? :D ;)

Rob Papen stuff ??
Never got myself some of his synths, but met the guy once and was seriously disappointed.
But then again, he did admit to me that he just got lucky he found himself an awesome coder and that was the secret behind his great VST's. You got any other plugins from him ?

Thanks for the kind words and the suggestions gents.

I might try out a different version and do something else instead of the FM type sound in the future. For now, I'm just going to let it rest a bit.

Seriously though, if it makes people think, then it's always a good thing in this numbed out self-loving society of ours. If people aren't smart enough to know it's not because you use quotes, that you agree or disagree 200% with every single word being said, then these people can go fuck themselves.
Better have a strong opinion than no opinion at all, if you ask me. ;)

Hades: Of course mate, it's just me and my stupid "treat people like you would like to be treated" every time I hear racial slurs I get a bit angry... :x

Yeah, the vocals. I'm happy that you found them questionable. I've decided that my music is going to try and be political. Too much dance music these days is bland and apolitical, considering that techno and house started pretty much as a political statement. Now-a-days it's just music for bro's and ho's to show off their gym bodies, new tattoos..... (nah, i'm joking a bit)
If someone, even one person listens to my tracks and things something, then I've succeeded.

That is a pretty smart thing you've done there when thinking about it in hindsight , I'm still replaying some of that text in my head and thinking about it

Thanks for all the tips.

I'm going to post this in the members section later on after a few tweaks, but since you lot helped I thought I'd post it here.

That sound has been kept, but the pattern changed to what it was originally, a bit more musical (well, as musical as I can be - fingermashing the keys). If it's really irritating, I'll take it out.

Hades, I own rob papen's punch, but literally NEVER used it. Subboombass is pretty awesome.

Arkos, I feel quite strongly about shit like inequality, racism, blacks getting shot by police, etc... so instead of just getting upset about it, I (in a very limited way) try and get a message across. At some point I may buy a mic and say whatever I want.

I have a clip this time. More house music i'm afraid.

Is this too happy? Worth finishing?

Is it too happy for what? Maybe for some, not for others... I'd say, do what you feel, when you're producing music. I would love to have the kick a bit more attack. It's nice rumbling with the bassline, but a sharper transient would bring it a little more in front. Just a little. Sounds like a nice groove you could for sure build a track of. I like the vocals, they are not that much cliché like the piano is ;)

I don't know.
It's certainly ok in it's genre,
but it's just another one of those tracks, no ?
If you think you can learn something from it, finish it.
Otherwise, I wouldn't put in too much effort.
Nice groove though, no doubt !

Thanks lads.

Yeah the pianos are cliche. I might keep them, or I'll introduce a proper stab.

@Hades, I think I'll finish it (unless someone else says it sucks as well ;) ). I'll see if I can get 'musical' with it. If not, then at least I'll learn what not to do.

:D
I never said it sucked !
Just said it's a bit typical in its genre.

let's put it this way : if continuing to work on this track, in any way, gives you a frustrating experience,
or you get the feeling you would have preferred to spend your time on other stuff,
then I wouldn't continue working on it.
But if it's a fun experience and/or you can learn something from it,
then go for it.

besides, you should know better than to believe some stupid Flemish fuck anyway. ;)

Great melody here, literally sounds like north europe in the winter. I just would work a little better the percussion othen than that is good!

Alright i fiiiiiinally had time to sit with the track and try to improve it! :P

I think this is likely as far as I can come with it - and I'm actually quite pleased with this version :)

Hope you will give it a listen again, and then I shall make sure to lend my ears out (hopefully) later tonight <3

...now I just want to make a purely rhythmic track

Again this is great, just not sure about that white noisey hi hat that comes in... but great work man!!

I worked today on this one:

https://soundcloud.com/rootpromo/08-002a/s-bsv0K

Was playing around with some dub chords and this is what happened. Atm I try to get my subs better, tighter, more driving. This is the first attempt after rearranging my room to get better acoustics.. What you think, did I mess everything up?

Hardly your typical dub chords though. I like it.
