Packaging Foam as isolation pads
Just got my yamaha hs50m's through the door!
I noticed that the packaging foam is very rigid and is shaped to the bottom of the monitor perfectly. Anyone know if this would make a good isolation pad for the monitors or are the absorption properties rubbish? Am I better off getting Auralex Mopads?

Ok ... just found an explanation. Going to burn it now in temper!
"While aesthetics are important, acoustic foam's dense and uniform cell formation makes it superior for absorption andecho elimination. Since packaging foam is intended to reduce the weight for shipping, it is obviously inferior at absorption, and bedding foam's cell structure is less dense, making it soft and conforming but not an effective acoustic treatment. Not only is sound foam best for the acoustic treatment of a room, but also is the forerunner when it comes to safety."

Wow thats a really good price! Cheers for the link mucker!
Re: Packaging Foam as isolation pads
i used breeze blocks and phone books. probably not the most acoustically optimal material but they get the monitors up to the correct height nicely. give the room an industrial look too ;-P
