Autofilter clicking in Live

Post by testa »

Hey friends

I cant get rid of this clicking every time I use the lives autofilter to take out the lows end in my tracks.

does anyone else have the problem too? what do you do to get away from this issue?

thats a bit strange, i've never noticed it myself and i use it to high pass quite a bit. i get a lot of clicking when i'm using clip envelopes tho until they're set just right.

are you using autofilters sidechain?

I have the same problem myself. The work around I use is to zoom in and move the automation points just before you want to turn on the filter. It doesn't alawys work though!

@Sam.. Would you keep the AF on the whole time during the track?

I get it that fkn clicking too. I have an autofilter on the master, at the end of everything.. turned off, and up to about 180ish(??).

I have the on/off & Freq amount mapped to the xfader on my midi keyboard.. when I'm feeling like it, I'll whack out the bass & the AF is turned on.. the freq goes up.. then CLICK

Probably has something to do with the on/off being activated, more than the freq being changed. Dont know what to do. I have the same issue and it doesnt matter how much I fiddle about with it - it still happens.

Logic is the same for the clicks on/off.. but the automation seemed to be more consistantly responsive in that. Not sure how to get around it either. I think its just clunky automation in Live.

with some tracks i'll have the autofilter on the whole time. sometimes i'll have 2 on 1 track high and low passing and automation on the amount knobs but never noticed any clicking.

if i have an af on the master i'll generally automate the on / off and haven't noticed clicking there either.

i use the internal sound source on my macbook and have the latency turned right up, maybe that's why i don't get clicks..?

like i mentioned before the only place i get mad clicks is clip envelope volume automation but like james said (kinda) you can fix that by tweaking the slope.

hey guys,

You might want to try this (Its what I do):

1. Make a rack. Or drag in an autofilter & right click group.

2. Make 2 Chains. You'll have to open the window & add new chain.

3. One chain - is Dry. No FX. Other chain is Wet. with the Filter.

4. Have the dry chain starting at 0. And the wet chain starting at 127.

5. Map your midi knob or fader to this wet/dry amount. As the autofilter is always on, theres no clicking.

When I get the chance I'll upload a link for anyone who is unsure about racks.

the wet dry sounds magic for latency haters hahaha

zesto wrote:it's because the point where you turn it on/off is not on a zero crossing, the filter turns on and the first processed chunk starts at zero, if you turned it on mid waveform there would obviously be a click, this is inherent in all plugins, its not just a live problem, use wet/dry amount to turn off instead
 of course.

this man knows, and now we all do :)

yep nice file dirk. the wet / dry rack can be adapted for a lot of uses.

it's particularly useful for the master because autofilter seems to effect the sound even when it's all the way open.
