A subsekt remix competition?
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
Don't be a liar, we know you have no life outside of Subsekt .
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
I'll go try and explain that to my wife and 2 kids.TimBuys wrote:Don't be a liar, we know you have no life outside of Subsekt .
If I wasn't in between jobs, I wouldn't be on here half as much.
which probably counts for you as well

Every disadvantage has its advantage the late, great Johan Cruyff would say .

We're just talking remixing one track, though, right?Hades wrote:ow no, I'm glad to join (and I'm quite sure Jordan wouldn't mind either),totalcult wrote:If no-one on here feels they want to share a track as remix fodder (which would be totally understandable) we could always pick a publicly-open remix contest from Splice or somewhere like that - all download the parts, do our thing and share the results here. Just a thought, in case we need a 'plan B'.
EDIT: Also, down am I. :yoda:
I'm just not sure if I would do it with all my tracks.
Let's say I wouldn't mind with 80 to 85% of my tracks.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
I guess so,
but if we have multiple tracks to offer, we could do it more than once,
or just offer folks more freedom to chose the track they want to remix, no ?

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
It's a fair point. However, I'd say that if this sort of thing has been tried before and didnt work out, then maybe we should keep it simple. If there's only a handful of us interested at this point, i'd think we should stick to one track at a time. Makes it easier to compare against each other's efforts as well.Hades wrote:I guess so,

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
Yeah, remixing one track would definitely be best. No need to make it more complicated than it is. It´s too bad we don´t have polls because then we could let people vote in an easier way. Maybe Hades can list a couple of tracks of his that we can decide from. If by the end of next week there is no interest from Mattias/Void/Jordan to put up a track as well we can vote.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
ok, I thought about this one for about 5 minutes after a nerve-wrecking day
(I swear, though I look like half Spanish or Italian, I'm not made for temperatures of above 25°C, at least not in fucking Belgium)
you can have any of my tracks apart from "Jeune & Jolie".
Take whatever you think might give the best result (or the best learning experience).
I once saw some interview with a few well known sound designers,
and Eric Persing (one of the best ones there, also the guy behind Spectrasonics) once said when he had just made a few hundred presets for the D50,
and he had to hand them over, he had something like "but they're my babies",
but then he decided, "fuck it, I'll just make some new ones".
Normally all my Live projects also contain "earlier" material,
like when I have rerecorded some parts, then I usually keep the original clip,
which some times sounds rather different, in a big group track called "rest",
combined with clips I decided not to use in the end, but kept them in there, just in case,
so chances are you already have some remix material in there (if you want to).
That is of course for those of you who use Live,
the other cunts just have to work with stems I guess...

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
We could just hijack another remix comp.
Could be funny, get the stems from some pop or indie track and get a techno track out of it and post it up here...

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
Mabey an idea for a future edition? The thing is you will have a bigger chance of people disliking the track.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
The forum challenges never really take off, even if its a good idea.
Maybe some kind of place for people to hook up and remix each other? Like a lonely hearts thread for us sad bedroom producers?

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
I think we already have 10 people interested in this thread alone. If we set a realistic deadline that everyone can manage I don't see a reason for it to not to work. We just need to think up of a judging system.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
We'll see. I hope it takes off. Hell, I'll have a go if someone does it.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
Everyone that said he is down and doesn't make a submission will be banned off the forum
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
I don't know, I think they have a reasonable amount of interest, no ?Planar wrote:The forum challenges never really take off, even if its a good idea.
I mean, you can't expect all them spectators to join in when they barely join in on the other stuff either.
usual suspects and all that...
speak for yourself, you cunt !Planar wrote: Like a lonely hearts thread for us sad bedroom producers?
my studio hasn't been in a bedroom for 10+ years now.
However, I know about this water peroxide blonde that can cheer up your bedroom !
I heard she has many screams to sample !

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
honestly man, I would LOVE that.Planar wrote:Hell, I'll have a go if someone does it.
I mean, if they end up agreeing to do one of my tracks,
and you happen to make a remix of one of my tracks.
I've always had a weak spot for DnB, but I don't know enough about the genre,
and tbh, I know I only like certain parts of DnB.
Just had a (very) quick listen to your last track in the members part (while trying to micro manage 2 insanely crazy girls here, will return to it later), I would love to hear something like that done to one of my tracks.
I've always wanted to try and make DnB some day, but it's above my skill set, and I would lose too much time trying to learn another genre.

Re: A subsekt remix competition?
I'd be up for it regardless of whether this remix challenge comes off or not. Send me something and I'll do it, I really enjoyed the only remix I've ever done for Krypt.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
I've never done a remix, some kind of thread to share parts or something would be cool. Doesn't even have to be a competition, could be an ongoing thing.
Re: A subsekt remix competition?
yes, better no competition. just learning, having fun producing, seeing what others do with the same material, getting inspired..
