analog delay

Post by gabe DM »

hello folks, anyone of you would recommend me a good analogue delay? I have 200 euros to invest in and really don't know what to buy.. there are so many colorful pedals out there... I was thinking of one of the Strymon or (no analogue) the Lexicon or the boss space echo....

thanks in advance.

Erm, all those mentioned are digital no?
If you want analog delay, then go for analog delay, otherwise you may as well do it in the box

Electro Harmonix - Memory Man,Memory Boy,actually EHX has 4-5 different versions of the same delay.
A cheap but quality alternative would be Behringer Vintage time machine which is a Memory Man clone for a much lower price.

Space Echno from Boss is nice too but digital.

That little space echo emu from Boss sounded pretty cool to me as well.

To quote Strymon

"The result is our hand crafted dTape™ technology. Utilizing a ridiculously powerful SHARC DSP, every drop of processing power is harnessed."

So it`s just a computer in a little box.

It is however, supposed to be quite nice.

Buy a memory man, or build your own DIY analog delay with 1+ seconds of delay.
Whatever you do, don't buy a piece of shit Behringer anything. The power supplies they use are absolute trash. It may sound great on day one, but over time it's gonna degrade into a pile of goo.

whatever you get just know that if it's not tape, an analog delay will most likely have a bucket bridge design so the wet signal is going to have some low pass filtering on it. if you're looking for a delay that's going to give you lush highs and a full wet signal look at the eventide timefactor or the strymon timeline.

I wanted a true analog tape delay on a budget I would go for a Univox EC-80.

I am reading bad comments about the Univox EC-80 apparently is very fragile and it needs the tape to be replaced often etc... I am not that kind of a geek able to repair stuff :) I just spent 50 euros to replace a single knob on my mc-303 and I am sure it was a basic operation to do. eheheh

maybe I'll go with a little Memory Boy, it's cheap and seems nice

ok ppl, I bought a used Memory Boy and arrived three days ago. I had some problems at first because it arrived without the original power adapter... so I had to try three different power adapters I had with same voltage but different amperage until I found one with 1A that worked fine, with the others the pedal will switch on but didn't process the signal.
anyway the memory boy is nice, very limited I guess because the ms of the delay are not too many and the WET signal is lightly lower than the DRY one but it's ok, it has a DEPTH knob that modulate the pitch of the wet signal which is nice. it has a nice analogue feeling I guess meaning that the sound isa pretty dirty :)
the only thing I don't like is the FEEDBACK wich is kinda short even at the maximum lenght.
