anyone using mixxed?
Hi all, anyone here using this service who could share some insights? The website is https://mixxed.com/ and it's a sample subscription service. I've received a couple of emails from them asking me if I want to contribute. I've tried to find info about them online but haven't found much.

I use Splice, which is, I think, similar. It`s reasonably priced with a lot of useful content.

Yeah I browsed their website and it is definitely the same kind of service, but has very few contributors. I was thinking of sending them a pack but their payment system has an obscure thing called Content Use Rate that's off-putting.

The information on their homepage is indeed obscure - and yes, perhaps a bit off-putting as well.
As far as I can tell, in order to be able to upload samples (and earn money), you'll first need to become a paying subscriber.
The cheapest subscription is $2.99 per month.
For this amount a subscriber gets "100 credits", which can then be used to "buy" individual samples. One sample "costs" 1 credit to download. And since samples in packs can be downloaded individually, I think it's fair to assume that most subscribers will choose to do it like that (save credits by only downloading the samples they want, instead of downloading whole packs).
Assuming that "Content Use Rate" means you actually get 50% in revenue from "credits" spent on downloading files from your packs (and that these credits maintain their original monetary value), you'd need subscribers to download files from your packs (at least) 200 times every month just to break even.
If you have to pay taxes, the number needed will of course be higher.
Even if your samples/packs are great, and you spend a good deal of time marketing your packs everywhere you can think of, - getting that many people to download your sounds every month, on a relatively unknown website, doesn't seem super realistic to me.
More likely, the owners of the site are trying to get more paying subscribers by tempting them with the idea of making money by contributing samples, while knowing that very few people will actually be able to earn more than they pay for subscriptions, - and that this is how they intent to profit from the website (while amassing quality site content at no expense to themselves).
Please note: This is partly guesswork on my behalf. The actual deal might be worse than this (or even better). If you decide to contact them and ask for the business details, I'd love to hear what you find out!

Thanks a lot for sharing your insights man, I actually received two emails from a guy named Simon, the first one around three months back and the second one about a month ago. The email seemed great, a polished sales pitch of course, but after looking into their business I really feel the same way as you do about their service. Actually while checking their website I overlooked that part about first becoming a subscriber, that alone makes it definitely a bad deal, oh well...Val Endrada wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 6:50 pm

So still Splice seems to be the best bet and actually I looked into becoming a contributor there and it seems accessible at least, I remember that all you need is to have built your brand first, If you are not someone already well established, which if you are into samples it can be an enjoyable process I think.
