Stereo Expanders

Do these have a place in techno if I want a wide mix, or am I better of just boosting the volume of the sides a bit? If yes, what are some good ones?

Yeah as long as you don't overdo it.

I think I've tried all of them by now.
Best I have found is Nugen stereoizer. It's 100% mono compatible, you get a lot of control.
Obviously as with all stereo enhancement, do it to channels, not the whole mix.

Set it as high as possible, but only below 200hz.

Joking of course! Seriously, I like bx_control for this right now, though as Lost says, you can really overdo it. I prefer to overdo it with autopanning, as at least that way you give people motion sickness...

Yeah, sorry, I mean I use bx_control instead of stereo expanders now, except under very specific circumstances (like if I want to "stereo-ize" a mono signal, e.g. from my Minilogue, then I user the stereo tool in Logic.)

Some combination of psychoacoustic madness and mid side. It combines IID and ITD somehow.
There's no cancellation problems.
Really I have no idea but it doesn't fuck with the sound unless you go extreme. I've even used it in mastering with no problems, you have total width and band control. It's very good.

I like Hbasm stereoizer on synths, pads, etc. but sadly the 64 bit version still doesn't seem to have been sorted so I've not been using it for the last while. Been using the BX Stereomaker as well which can be good; I might be wrong but I think it monos the signal before making it 'stereo' rather than just taking the original stereo signal - that's the impression I get anyway, so it's not always that nice on sounds that already have some stereo information. I'll give this Nugen a shot anyway.
