Sold my 909 to press my first record.buffered wrote:yeah maybe just personal preference but i use hardware and vst's and prefer making rhythms on a step sequencer.dubdub wrote:Also with a plugin, you can easily duplicate your track, change the settings lightly and run and tweak multiple MIDI tracks (say, chords, pads and an ARP) at the same time, doing multiple tracks with a single HW synth just seems like a pain the ass.
Without one of these infront of you it is easy to criticise but the reason why the original boxes are legendary is (firstly sound, obviously) the tactile nature. I have a load of 909 samples, vst emulations OT with 909 loaded but none of them are as nice to use as the actual 909.
You use it in a way that is specific to it's design, button and pot layout.
The price is too high for these in my opinion but i would consider grabbing one purely because when i reach for 909 hats, i want to program them on the 16 step with a certain feel.
Have a play with a 303 and then say you prefer it in vst emulation. Will not happen. Regardless of how close the sound is.
Never missed it.
Sold my 303 and released a fair amount of acid afterwards. Much preferred the emulation I used, much less hassle and no one realised I had used emulations on some of the tracks.
Turning nobs on a 303 vs turning nobs on a controller.... Feels the same to me.

The only thing I miss is how much I could sell my 303 for now, that pisses me off. Could buy a lot of decent gear with that money now.

Yes, will happen !buffered wrote: Have a play with a 303 and then say you prefer it in vst emulation. Will not happen. Regardless of how close the sound is.
I have a 303 here.
I also have SW emulations.
I had the most fun with the real 303,
but the 2 or 3 tracks that I ever finished that have a 303 on there, were all done with SW.
I guess that puts things in perspective when you look at things from a practical point of view.
I work a LOT faster with the SW than with the real thing.
and yeah, nobody could tell I used an emulation.
yes it's exactly this.buffered wrote:each to their own
to each his own.
which is why you can't say "will not happen" for everyone on this planet.
I personally don't like having exotic cacti or taxidermified beavers shoved down my anus, but no doubt some people do.
Could happen, I guess..

My computer is a piece of shit. It's on my to do list... .Hades wrote:If you use SW, you only got to make sure your computer stays up to date, is fast enough and is stable.
I only switch laptops every 6 years, and I use them very heavily for those 6 years.

Unfortunately no, my guess is that they slipped past my facebook newsfeder.

I'm just not interested in these, because I still feel oversaturated by 909 and 303 sounds from the 90s. Actually I really liked the Juno/Jupiter boutiques but they were a bit lacking in the MIDI department.

Got to play on these at knobcon... didn't get a chance to mess with the 303 but the 909 was quite fun and sounded pretty authentic. You can pan each track so you can at least get 2 outs out of it. I think in USB audio mode you get 4 stereo outs. which would be enough for multitracking imo.
Still For me the clear winner with the VP03. i know its simple but those lush strings sound so so so good.

Sorry, don't understand the appeal of Roland essentially packing a VST into a plastic box and then selling it as hardware? What about the countless 303 clones that I could buy instead...
Re: Roland Gear Pics Leaked _ New Botique 909 / 303
Yeah, out of all the Roland products announced that day, that's pretty much the only thing I consider worth buying. Sounds good, doesn't cost that much, would be useful, both the strings and the vocoder.kirkwoodwest wrote:

I'd love a real 303, 909 etc don't get me wrong, they are part of the history of the music I love, but am I going to get excited about a vst in a box, I don't know. I've played with all the aira stuff and I like it but something just tells me if I had it, I would get bored very quickly. There are so many 303 clones and i am a believer that if you like acid you like acid regardless of whether it's roland or not. Can't remember the site now but found one online where every single acid device under the sun was playing the same sequences. Yep they all sounded like acid, it went through them all xoxbox, tb3, bassbot, all your vsts and some others I can't remember. I think it's entertaining that people ever thought there was going to be a fully analogue 909. I don't know fact of the matter is they will sell regardless and I bet there is a massive wave of relief from people owning the real deal haha

in fact
it is smarter to buy a 909 sound pack from elektron to use it on my rytm then buy a new tr 09. i mean its a cool drum machine ..
i never thought about spending 2000€ for a real 909 . but its the new tr09 worth it rather then buy a 909 sound pack..divided opinions?

I think it's the tactile vibe of the 909 as well as the Sound.
That's definitely one of the main strengths of the tr8. Great access to the parameters.
4 outs & separate headphone also.
I've bitched about it a little.. but after seeing get the tr9.. I appreciate what the tr8 is: a 808/909/7x7/606 rom system. Not too bad at all for the cash.

Side note, but has anyone on here used one of the boutiques for recording?
