Re: Writing/producing positive, happy, fun techno?
I generally consider the 'funky techno' stuff from the mid noughties to be more on the positive side. Cheese depends on the song and personal tastes. I just quickly went through some crates of 'summer techno' to get a variety. rpITa9c9wvw pCU7FnUtICo Umek's old stuff was super fun. His newer stuff i...

Re: Is Soundcloud still the 'go to' music hosting site?
Recently discovered Orfium. It's a barren wasteland for content at the moment, but the founder worked in YouTube rights management, so they've got all sorts of licensing options built right in: direct to artist, via label, free, or just stream. Layout and site seem to be decent start anyways.

Re: Traktor Remix Decks as composition tool
I had this same idea, and tried it out, but ultimately found that although the perspective change was nice, I was better off doing the same functions in Ableton so that I could adjust parameters after the fact. I really wanted to get remix decks to work, but it's weird - a bit in limbo between produ...

Just so you know, I've loved this track for years.
So.
Much.
I look forward to being able to get a high resolution copy someday.

Re: Mixing techniques
Relying on key to choose your mixes can be boring and limited. None of the programs are 100% accurate at figuring them out, and there's techno out there without a strongly leading key. It can be a search criteria, but don't consider it a rule. Also, remember that +/-6% is a semitone. Playing digital...

Re: Am I gimping myself by not buying more vst fx?
A complex matrix delay thet splits the signal in to 3 (frequency separated if you wish), and then each delay cascades down (in time) through a sequence of slower and slower delay timings and also gets wider as the delays slow whilst also degrading like the signal is being voltage choked with each r...

Re: Am I gimping myself by not buying more vst fx?
Ableton has a really solid core set of efx, but the problem is that everyone has them, and they are thus limited in the palette. Well, not entirely true as with parallel processing through racks/groups/splitting and so on, you can create some great detail to simulate what dedicated plugs do. e.g. us...

Re: Need Help for Dark Minimal/Techno DJ Set
Correct, the right place would be in or on the record store, listening too and looking for records and building your catalogue. You know.... Like a DJ would. mhmm yep. Dawzer, this is why you're request is not being taken seriously. DJs define themselves by their taste. A specific flavour of musica...

No controllers in the club!
Sorry if this thread has been made already, but I didn't notice it. This week has been a buzz with the debate over controllers being legitimate for DJs to use after a club posted it's policy online (and went viral) proclaiming no controllers allowed in their booth. DJtechtools wrote two articles, CD...

Re: Recording And Collecting Your Own Samples Into Libraries
Organization seems like a lot of work, but it pays off. Even though modern search is way better than it used to be. OSX spotlight is still crap for finding somethings, but I've used EasyFind as a free alternative that is very thorough. No longer limited to 8 characters in a filename: it's helpful to...

Thanks for the level reply Wiu, I really appreciate it. Sorry if I came across poorly, my gut reaction was concern for the lurkers that look up to places like these. I did a version for the challenge, but no sooner had I bounced the squashed version did I realize I hated how much of the extra triple...

Re: Carry on regardless or throw in the towel
Your work is solid, certainly don't give up. I would DJ them at a restaurant, lounge or patio gig for sure. Self-releasing them will only get them as far as you can promote them yourself. So, even if tagged and described well that they will show up on a search for someone looking for that specifical...

Also, I wasn't trying to insult you. I wanted to shine a light on how your words came across and challenge you to reflect on whether you are being honest with yourself or just spouting defensive bullshit. I apologize for triggering a sensitivity, but if you wan't to directly challenge my assumption ...
Re: Mp3's
It would be great if Bandcamp could get in on the streaming market with a decent recommendation algo radio setup so that the distance between listeners and artists continues to shorten.
