Re: Anybody else here have a dedicated kick synth?
I've used kick samples for years, now I always make them myself. It's so much easier and quicker to get the pitch, pitch envelope, length and overall sound right depending on the tempo of the track, the kick pattern, sound aesthetics etc. I might re-use past presets I made and tweak them according t...

Re: Anybody else here have a dedicated kick synth?
I was interested in the actual kick generation\generator and not the bells and whistles gaffa taped on to all sides saturators, distortions and all the other shit they bolted in to it. Hence *thinking* of getting and not bought already. I only used the Sine and 909 Synth engine so I can't comment o...

Re: DOOM: Behind the music
Glad you guys dig this as much as I do :) He touches so many topics, I even forgot the stuff he said on fear of failure. Was totally blown away by the way effects pedal part. I tried a similar approach quickly with ableton's stock effects but couldn't get close. Might try with the few pedals I have....

DOOM: Behind the music
Found this super interesting and apparently it hasn't been posted here before. Especially the part where he describes how he ran pure sine waves through an array of effects pedals. The results sound absolutely fantastic in my opinion.

Re: Anybody else here have a dedicated kick synth?
I brought the Punchbox VST and it was one of the best decisions i have made. I have only got into the factory stuff so far but it is all I have needed to up the quality of the kick drums in my tracks. http://d16.pl/punchbox I was thinking of getting that. Versatile? vs. D16's Punchbox is worth chec...

Re: Strategies to go from an inspiring sound to a track?
I think you are addressing two issues here. How to fill sonic space and how to fill time. If you have, say, a bass patch that you like, you could proceed by looking for elements that fill the remaining frequency spectrum that won't clash with the element you already have. Regarding a hook or theme, ...

Re: Ableton mono signals
Unless you use something like ableton Utility stereo control. Then, if you are setting it to mono by pulling down the stereo to zero percent you ARE losing information because you are just turning down the sides and not engaging mono summing. In this context I'm always wondering what the correct me...

I don't know what it says about me that it took me 20 secs in until I realized that this is a shred. Either that music software ads are expected to be horrible or that I'm stupid.

Re: What hardware would you like to see, which doesn't exist
I would like an ideal eurorack case that was designed to fit as carryon luggage, wasn’t underpowered, and wasn’t insanely expensive. The Doepfer A100 P6 case fits as carry-on luggage (apart from Ryanair probably). Took in on a plane a couple of times. It's on the verge of being too heavy but that w...

Can't listen to the clips right now but the first thing a thought of after reading the thread title was that this is about modal scales. You could try to base a melody on the Phrygian dominant scale (or explore modal scales in general):

Re: Sonic academy Kick 2 Or whatever
Techno tends to have more of a primal bottom end and i think something that is great for that is self oscillating filters being triggered by short impulses of whatever.i think in my own opinion at least you'd be better served by something like The Drop than KICK2 for making Techno anyway.i also don...

Re: Technoacts that are not white males
It's kinda strange to have the desire to book diverse artists for a festival but then to not know who to book. If there is sufficient diverse talent out there (I suppose there is) and a real interest in discovering that talent, one would already know some undervalued and undiscovered artists and be ...

Something pretty similar is Punchbox by D16. Don't know which one is better but I like Punchbox a lot.

Re: Balancing creative ambitions with real life responsibili
For me it worked to define a minimum viable commitment. I.e., figure out how much time I can allocate every day to music making. For me that's 30 mins each day, regardless what else is going on. But it could also be 10 mins or 3 hrs, depending on your schedule. I turn off the internet, set an alarm ...

Re: Soudcloud player not correctly embedded on facebook
Embedding the SC-player on FB stopped working quite some time ago. I assumed they stopped supporting the embedded SC-player altogether but apparently it still might work if you just try often enough: https://soundcloudcommunity.com/share-embed-230064/embed-player-on-facebook-only-for-certain-tracks-...

Re: Prepping for a live set
Practice a lot. Keep it much simpler than you first think it needs to be. Leave room for improvisation. Don't overestimate the things you can do at once. Be aware that playing live in a dark loud environment with a lot of distraction is much harder than practicing at home. You will forget about half...

Re: New samples packs for techno music.
What is actually the deal with vengeance? A few years ago I downloaded (yes, pirated) 1 or 2 of their sample CDs because I read the name everywhere. I was shocked that this stuff was total and utter crap! Most samples are obviously ripped of from existing tracks and many of them in a particularly aw...

It depends what you use, how you use it and how much of it you use. I personally don't need the latest shiny CPU-hungry VSTi. If you do then, well, you better get a fast computer.Markus Wolf wrote:Effects like reverbs and delays, VST's and AU's will eat up resources....
