Re: Arrangement/energy/ideas

What works for me is to put a finished track in the project playlist (in fl studio) and mirror it with the arrangement. What I do is that I place markers when something changes in the finished track. So for example; mark when the kicks comes in, when the bass comes in, when a lead comes in, when a ...

Arrangement/energy/ideas

So I am not talking in the sense of that typical problem of getting stuck with an 8 bar loop and having difficulty moving beyond that - I am actually doing okay with that lately. But I am always getting stuck with making a track that has a flowing energy arc to it and where the various ideas I am ex...

Techno and "substances"

Sorry if this chat is off limits, no harm intended - remove if needed. Watched one of these bbc drug documentaries last night...... What are your opinions on techno + chemical substances such as speed mdma or whatever? I have met lots of people that indulge, but I have met some that are still kinda ...

Re: How often do you guys use compression?

I use it in a kind of hierarchy. As an insert for effect like as already been said to make some intense reverb effects, or to maybe smooth out a dynamic vocal sample or something. At bus level to glue the different elements, hats, kick + bass, etc Master out for glueing the mix. Usuauly getting more...

Re: Best soundsystems you've heard in your non-humble opinio

From my experience the Fetisch element is not as crazy as its reputation. Don't get me wrong - stuff definitely happens, but a large part of Berghain is just an amazing venue. The sound system can be crazy good, but I have also had experienced waaaay too loud volumes there! (P-bar has been more a h...

Re: Best soundsystems you've heard in your non-humble opinio

It's literally just one guy, the infamous piss guy. He's been there, on and off, for many years but when he's there he literally doesn't do anything else but sit there for 8-12 hours and ask (or rather, beg) to drink peoples piss. That's some fucking dedication to your fetish. I think at this...

Re: Best soundsystems you've heard in your non-humble opinio

Sorry to hear that. I don't really get their door policy, though I was there twice and got in both of these times... It could be because of mine and my gf matching blue and red diy made nasa jumpsuits (most comfy clubbing gear). Haha noted for next time I goto Berlin: - make a DIY jumpsuit. Althoug...

Funktion 1 in berghain. Some enormous Martin Sound on outdoor festival Tried to get into Berhain when was in Berlin and got knocked back :-( I unfortunately now just have it associated in the same part of my brain as when i was 16/17 queuing to get into clubs and getting knocked back by the bouncer...

Re: Best soundsystems you've heard in your non-humble opinio

Was genuinely shocked when I tagged along with the GF to electric brixton for a festival afterparty, don't know anything about club speaker setups and I don't usually go there but the bass level and pressure was fantastic, even though it was tech house which is not normally my thing, the sound syste...

Re: Why don't girls like techno?

For me this is a strong bit of evidence that bilogical factors play a decent part of the equation? This was written in 2012 though so perhaps things have changed, but from as young as 3months there is a trend to be drawn in male and female preferences? Am I reading that right? https://www.livescienc...

Re: Why don't girls like techno?

While it's definitely not true that girls don't like techno, I think they're generally speaking less interested in things that have to do with technology. That's why you see way less female producers than male producers. IMO a true appreciation of Techno comes from knowing how difficult it can be t...

Re: Why don't girls like techno?

With heavier styles of music you just tend to get less women. Tech-house and more commercial stuff, more even split. The more industrial or hard stuff, more of a cock fest. Same with heavy metal. Go to a mainstream metal gig, you get more women. Go to some dank death-doom gig and it`s wall to wall ...

Re: Why don't girls like techno?

I don't care really as I am always more interested in the music anyway. Then why would you make a topic about it and not about music? Any club I've been to in recent years has had an even mix. Bordem, Curioisty - it is sort of linked to the music a bit as I would love to goto a filthy dark rave and...

Re: Why don't girls like techno?

Which clubs are you going to? As a female there has only been one club, one time where I have really noticed a high male to female ratio and that was the battery room in Tresor. I go out to techno nights regularly and have a really good insight as to who goes to techno nights. I know plenty of peop...

Why don't girls like techno?

Every techno event I go to the male to female ratio is extreme. I don't care really as I am always more interested in the music anyway. But women just don't seem to get/enjoy techno to the same level as guys and am just wondering why or any theories? Obviously there are MANY exceptions to that rule ...

Re: Why we do what we do, and why we sometimes cant.

1. What is your art really about? Trying to trigger people to forget their work, how they look, modern life etc etc, to enter the present moment and express themselves via their body movments in a pure un-stifled almost subconscious way. Basically the opposite of how we are in daily life. 2. Where i...

Re: Mental fever

LSD is amazing, although I done it on a chilled out Saturday with the GF babysitting me. I think it would be pretty horrific to like 95% of people in a club??? I was getting a bit freaked out when some guy just looked at me a bit funny. Remember took a drink of lucozade and felt it run down my throa...
