Re: DJ Disko @ 4 Years E-Werk (20.04.1997)

Cool, cool!

Went to E-Werk in '95. DJ Disko was playing and Brenda Russell headlining.

The good old, bad old days and one of my more significant techno memories.

Ron Trent - Altered States

More Summer vibes - this time from the heart of Chicago.

Apparently Ron was around 16 when he wrote this. Fairly remarkable.

Richard Polson & Nick Dunton - Inceptive

Friday morning and the sun's shining once more (in the UK anyway).

What better way to start the day than this gem from the turn of the century.

Which only results in your own mix being more interesting and exclusive by association.

From my own experience, following your own path with conviction will often end up with others retracing your own footsteps.

Keep up the good work and more of this, please.

I'm all ears!

Re: Injecting politics into techno

A topical one for today: Theresa May highpasses her basslines at 120Hz, and doesn't bother to set a sensible level for the kickdrum before adding more channels. Her room has no acoustic treatment; she works late at night and always monitors really loud, regularly pissing off the neighbours because ...

Really cool, Dubdub

Great tracks, great mixing.

I'd be thrilled if I heard a set like this played out.

Even the pic with the Hood's mighty Invincible EP.

PWOG - Out Now

Too many great trax to mention from these guys but here's a PWOG track that deserves more love than it gets.

Another stone cold classic.

Re: Perceptions based on previous experience

I can only speak from personal experience but I find myself far more critical these days of established producers particularly where they work a signature sound. Plenty of idols from previous years that I've stopped buying their releases in recent or fairly recent times because their current output ...

Re: Perceptions based on previous experience

Provocative question. Various thoughts on this. Right at the top of the list, filters. We need filters to make sense of the oceans of information that reached saturation point a long time ago. There are artists we trust through their consistent level of quality in their productions. There are DJs we...

Re: Injecting politics into techno

It's definitely important to problematize it if that was the end result (I wasn't around in the 90s), but the one thing I'm always nostalgic about - without ever being there - is that I find people often care too much about the DJ when I'm out dancing. I like this idea of the loss of individuality ...

Re: Injecting politics into techno

Techno has done this globally, I believe and part of the reason I love it as much as I do. The international diversity on this forum alone is demonstration enough of the universal language we've all come to learn and communicate with. Well yes-ish. We have to place the internet within this framewor...

Re: Injecting politics into techno

Couldn't resist but read in full. Very interesting. Like what the article is saying about class destructuralization and I'm confident this was also one of the positive by-products of the whole rave movement in the late eighties/early nineties in the UK. Also confident this hasn't endured unfortunat...

Acid Scout - Movie 00003

Another of the of the great techno masters that spun out and lost it in Ibiza in the noughties.

Remember the good times, don't you want some more?

Hehe I wouldn't dare even try.

Loved this track for a long, long time though.

Also been favouring your last Gynoid release, Mattias.

Great trax and a very cool PEARL remix.

Re: Learning vs consuming / Millenials & music production

There has always been bilge. It was at it's worst in 2000 ish when distribs were pressing just about anything. Ha, ha. You're not wrong there, V. Some properly average output. What I find even more worrying are those same labels re-emerging a second time around now like they were something special ...
